It has been suggested to me to mount my UHF in a dash pod, after a recent purchase of a GPS/reversing camera/ stereo/dvd play which doesnt fit my GQ that well, that I've had to mount it poking way out to allow the screen to open and pop up, but it hits my gear shift, so The wife is getting that one for her car and I'm getting a 2 din module which will resolve the above problem but will also take up the lower din bay where my UHF currently lives. any advice or tuitorials on how to make a dash pod up would be appreciated, or any links to sites etc, as I dont want to cough up hundreds of dollars for a pre made one.

Thanks in advance

Marc

Try sourcing a centre console surrounding or instrument cluster surrounding and grafting together a dash pod so it looks factory :)

Make a ply wood or sheet metal model glue some thin foam and matching trim, really not that hard

Some people mount their cb's up near the rearview mirror either in the sunglasses holder or in a over head consul . some have even made their own consul . If you use the search function I think there are posts with pics that might be helpful .

Overhead console is the way to go. Either make your own or buy an aftermarket one. I have a rono console in my GQ ute it runs across the front and has a mount in the middle for a radio and 2 decent size pockets on each side which is handy for wallets, phone ets.

There's one on this thread, if it were me I'd look at fitting the double din in the pod, keep it up higher and easier to see........... as long as it doesn't obscure your vision

If you by the remote head style UHF like the Icom 440 all your problems are solved
only need to find a spot to mount hand piece.
