Hi guys

I am thinking of buying a Mac Book Pro, will the Y61 ESM and Nissan FAST run on a Mac?

Also what is the latest version available of the Y61 ESM and Nissan FAST for Australia.

Thanks,

Steve

probably your best bet would be to run it through VMware within a windows environment on the Mac, personally i would just suggest buy a Windows Based PC, but if your hearts set on Mac, then that would be the avenue you would have to go down.

Just had a look at Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac which says when no Windows applications are open, Parallels Desktop will pause, thus taking up very little system resources. Sounds good.

Someone also recommended Crossover by Codeweavers but not sure if this will run the ESM or FAST.

Thanks rusty_nail, I am tempted to go over to the dark side.

Steve.

ok so i took a look at parralels, its exactly the same as VMware Fusion, at the end of the day you will be running an OS within an OS, i think that just kinda defeats the point. it takes up more room on you HDD, and when using any windows based software, you will be using twice as much processing power to run that application.

can i ask why you think Mac would be such a good option? the only two pros that i see with Macs are

1. incredible battery life, however this isnt due to some super awesome battery, its simply because the OS is very cleverly written to use little to no power.

2. the hardware is very good quality.

however, for those two pros, you pay though the nose(or other bodily functions =P ), they are locked down to apple, and with the new Mac OS 10.8 all software has to be purchased through the app store. which means that there wont be any shopping around from prices, if even sourcing pirated software(which i of course dont condone, but participate in on the occasion)

coming from an IT professional i can guarantee if you want value for money buy a $1k lappy from JB hifi or the likes. look for and i7 processor, only buy Asus, Lenovo or Samsung. those 3 brands i have found are the most reliable, the have the least fault returns and they are bang for buck. for a similar spec'd apple, you would be looking at about 2k... it beats me why anyone would pay double for the same hardware, yes apple use intel chips these days so they are no different to you average computer except they have a custom BIOS.

anyways i could go on but thats my two cents worth,

cheers

nic

Thanks nic, I see your point.

How about something like Asus Eee PC?

Well I would steer clear of those too as you will find they are very limited in their use as the processing power sux. If you got yourself a NetBoot though that would be good, even throw an SSD in it, it will make the computer great. Toshiba make a great NetBook I can't remember what the model is but I had one for a while, duel core, 10.1 inch screen, about a 5 hour battery life. From memory it was about 600bucks. The perfect thing for on the road.
