Hi All,
Been a member for a few months now.
I used to own a GQ TD42 with all the goodies, intercooled turbo, lockers, suspension, etc etc

I sold it about 3 months ago and purchased a 2005 GU 4 3lt auto :( bit of a downgrade engine wise so I have just purchased a 2008 Duramax 6.6 Ltr engine with 6 speed Allison auto, it should arrive just before xmas. Should be a nice upgrade all around.

Cheers Elliot

The current 3lt has only done 80,000km so it needs to last until the new year then I will be pulling it all out including all other parts like snorkel air box etc etc and then start the install.

The car has been off the road for nearly 6 months now with only diffs under it. Been flat out so hopefully over the next few months it will start coming together.
A couple of pics - hopefully putting it up here will force work to be done on it!

LS1 on the left 6.6 Duramax and 6 speed on the right - the LS is tiny compared!

Welcome Elliot, though I see you joined last year. Great pictures and a great cocept. How does the size of the Alison 6 Speed compare to the existing GU Box? Is there much work to do with the box electronics? I was toying with the GM 6.5 Turbo to mate to my Patro Auto, but the cost seems a bit high for me. Anyway, I for one will be watching your progress with interest.

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome (back)

fixer982 the allison is basically the same size as the patrol box where it joins to the engine but from there back it doesnt reduce in girth much at all, they have been fitted before but all with body lifts and in Vic we can't body lift an airbagged vehicle (actually I lie, you can but the engineer wants us to prove it doesn't effect the air bag sensor/s, that means crash testing!) The floor will have to be cut and possibly the firewall as the exhaust will be run down the firewall not over the head like in all other covnersions, I don't mind modifying the firewall once the engine is in it wont be coming out again.
The auto is controlled by its own computer but it also talks to the engine computer and vice versa, it actually learns your driving style to make changing as smooth as possible.

I have just been doing more cleaning up and painting under the car - easy to do it now with nothing in it, as soon as anything exciting happens I'll post it up.
