noisey motor

I have a non turbo 4.2 that makes a wining noise like the water pump is stuffed but the mechanic that has serviced for years reckons there is nothing wrong with it .water pump and alternator are new and power steering pump appears to be ok.So do these motors make this noise or is it my imagination and there is nothing wrong

You can check water pump by grabbing it and see if any play in shaft.
could be any number of things. tension up your belts as per the manual
and let us know if its still there. What area are you in???

I just replaced the water pump which as it turned out was nearly new so any other sugestions could it be the belt tensioner cause that looked pretty averageor is there something common that goes on thes motors

Belt tensioner is a good possubility

Is it okay to disconect all the belts and start it for a few seconds just to make sure the noise is coming from the front of the motor

yep. Could also be worn belts.

X2 ... missing belts is only a drama off the driveway (as such) - try it out mate and it will narrow it down for you at least ....
