Hi guys

I'm Greg, I'm from the central coast NSW. I currently own two patrols, the first is a 91 LWB wagon 4.2 petrol, she's a bit beat up but it gave me the taste for 4x4's so I have just brought (for a steal might I add) a 96 LWB wagon, 4.2 petrol/gas that is in awesome condition but has a cracked head, so over the next few weeks expect some questions cause I'm gonna try and tackle it myself :)

Ok well that's enough so look forward to talking to other patrol enthusiasts and sapping all of their knowledge lol cheers guys!

Welcome, Phat Patroller!!!!

Don't know the economics where you are, but the neighbour who has a TB42, ie, carby engine has taken to replacing whole engine rather than looking for heads to be reconditioned.

I think it is worth taking the head off etc, as you know for sure what you are dealing with. The whole engine swap could be on its last legs.

Thanks guys, yh I have considered the options regarding the price of motor out of second hand rig but ill pull the head off first and see what the damage is. The motor runs quite nicely in this one despite the cracked head.

Anyways I'll be pulling it off tomorrow so stay tuned :) ill post any further questions in the appropriate thread cheers again lads

Why edit? Every day of intensive mechanical diagnostic and repair should be started with a quick toe curler lol

I have no idea on the actual fault, my goal is to rip the head off, get it reco'd if needed. While its apart ill check the cooling system. But I'll put it back to together and then take it to a gas guy to check it out I reckon.
