Hi All,

First post for me...just a query? I replaced the OEM air filter cartridge in my 3.0L 2003 GU Patrol with a K&N type Paper filter (Part# E-9267). I've never oiled it as I believe it is a paper filter. Am I wrong? Its been going great however when (if ever) do I change it? It says its good for 50,000 miles but it looks quite dirty and I wold normally change at every 10,000 kms (mostly city ride)...

It is always a good idea to post up an introduction before asking for any assistance, just gets everyone on side from the start...................we ask everyone to do this mate.

LJD,

This filter is one that needs to be oiled to ensure correct filtration. If you don't oil it, then there is no guarantee that your filter is doing an adequate job.

There are quite a few threads and anecdotal evidence that over oiling these types of filters is also bad, as excess oil is sucked into the intake and accross the MAF, which if enough oil contaminates it, can cause poor performance and running issues. I haven't used one on my Patrol, so I can't comment from first hand experience.
