6 months ago i purchased a 2009 GU patrol ute coil cab with 94000km on the clock. At about 96000km i had it serviced including fuel, oil and air filters. A month later I then did a trip to Queensland from the NT and back with no problems. Recently i have had trouble starting it, it just winds over for ages before it fires up. After inspecting the hand prime pump i found it to be not working properly (fuel going both ways) and the non return valve in it seemed to be letting fuel drain back to the tank. I replaced this part and the car seemed fine for about a week. Now i'm having the problem again but am also loosing power after the engine comes on boost, as if i'm lifting my foot off the accelerator. Maybe the engine is being starved of fuel?? I'm thinking i may have got some bad fuel on the trip to QLD and it may have blocked my fuel filter already?? I am thinking of putting another inline fuel filter before the hand pump.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Phil

Are your fuel lines all ok and not perished, just happened to a friend, hard to start.

dont put an inline fuel filter as it will restrict flow to you injector pump.
check glow plugs maybe?

One bad tank and new filter can be done in 1000km. Better getting a water seperator than inline filter

Any luck with this RoboPhil,
Have you tried a new fuel filter, and checked all the lines where you have replaced the last filter to make sure that all the clamps are tight and there is no air leaks?

Have replaced the fuel filter and checked for leaks, checked fuel lines and blown them and fuel tank breathers out with air. Pulled the fuel tank out and inspected, it was clean inside. Car is running better as it is not losing power i'm guessing the filter must have been blocked or partially blocked. Was starting ok but just this afternoon after driving to the post office after work it failed to start. I pumped the fuel primer hand pump half a dozen times and it filled with fuel then the car started after about 3 seconds on the starter. Not sure what to do next, might have to look for a mechanic shop that specializes in diesel's especially CRD. If any one knows any in the Darwin area would be great.
Cheers

It is good to hear that the fuel tank was clean, which means the lines should also be fairly clean.
The only part left that everyone says is non-serviceable, is the fuel rail itself and the injectors. I would think that it isn't in the fuel rail or injectors per-se as the car seems to be running fine, but from other posts I gather that the fuel pressure relief valve on the end of the fuel rail can be problematic.
I would refill the tank with a known quality fuel from a trusted Service Station, to try and dilute any poor fuel that you may still have in the tank.
Also, try replacing the standard Nissan Hose clamps under the bonnet with good quality aftermarket ones, if any of these seem at all dodgy, this will give you better clamping pressure at the hose joints. It could be as simple as one of the existing clamps expanding when it gets hot and losing clamping pressure - pretty hot up your way all the time, with even hotter temps under the bonnet.
I know you have changed the non-return valve, but is this still working correctly? I would check that the new one isn't bleeding back into the tank line. I have just checked the Primer Bulb on my car which is running perfect, and it was only able to be squeezed a little.

Car got tilt trayed to a diesel shop the other day after it failed to start at all. Have been away for work over the weekend and after returning this morning i contacted them and they say i need new injectors as it is losing pressure there when car is turned off (leaking back through return lines?) They told me rail pressure is fine and fuel pump pressure is fine. Going to cost over 3 grand i hope they got there diagnosis right.

Whoa, seriously? Your car is newer than mine, which has 75,000km on it with regular Nissan dealer services, and your injectors are shot? Apart from the fact that your location means that you are more at risk of bad fuel than me, I really can't believe that you need new injectors.
I would definitely be seeking a second opinion.

Got new injectors in then it went good for two days then started losing power. Took it back now the pump is losing pressure and starving the engine of fuel got that replaced now spent $6000 all up. Kinda wish i didn't buy this Patrol now.

mine is an 08 with 80000 ks and had the same problem it was the injectors and pressure switch drove me insane trying to work it out i spent months going over it. now I have another problem it gets to 2500 revs starves for fuel then shuts down it never ends sometimes.

Oe hose clamps are rubbish IMO change them to the constant pressure style,
you could even change the hoses to the silicon style as well, one less thing
