Hi all,

I have a 1998 Nissan Patrol GU TB45 petrol that actually runs on a dual fuel system (LPG + Petrol).
My intention is to use it as a secondary car for the family excursions to discover this beautiful country.
Since LPG is not a deal when you are going to the Outback (I paid up to 212/l when crossing the Nullarbor). I am totally convinced about returning it back to its standard configuration.

I have the chance to buy an original 90l tank coming from a 2008 TB48 GU (Serie IV), but before of closing the deal, I would like to know if it will fit into my TB45 GU (Serie I).

In addition to know if it will fit from a brackets point of view, I would also know if will be possible to fit in the tank the standard sender unit + fuel pump coming from a TB45 GU (Serie I) like mine.

As a summary, I would like to know if I can adapt a 2008 TB48 Serie IV tank into a TB45 Serie I using also a sender and fuel pump from a TB45.

Hoping someone can help with this question,

Thanks in advance,

"when you are going to the Outback (I paid up to 212/l when crossing the Nullarbor)" Hi Anaurath , So $2.12 a litre of LPG or are you saying petrol was $2.12 a litre , anyway LPG is $ .60 cents a litre, where as fuel $1.45 ulp.
I have the same setup as you last trip was 3800 kms all on LPG , the only thing I will do is change my Sub tank from 32litre to 75 or 85 litre upgrade , but at $1000 bucks for the unit plus install . just not doing that Outback trip as yet cheers Alex

Anaurath, what size is your belly tank on your patrol? Is it the small 40-50 litre or do you have the LRA brand 75 litre tank? If you only have a small tank I would upgrade to the bigger belly tank, I just bought a second hand one off ebay for 100 dollars and new ones can be gotten for about 550 these days (for the gq) Honestly for touring LPG is the go, with the way fuel prices are looking these days you'll be broke before you get to see much of this country, or you can go buy a diesel which is what everyone with a diesel will tell you, Haha, as for your actual question I'm not sure so if your mind is set then I'm not much use to you. Good luck

Hi Altech, I meant $2.12 for a litre of LPG near Nullarbor... I was really surprised, because in that petrolstation 95 petrol wa cheaper than LPG!!!
I see your point, but from my little experience as soon as you go far from urban points, LPG price raises up and although keeps under the petrol prices, taking into account that normally the engine drinks more on LPG, then the difference in terms of economy is not so huge. For instance, mine on LPG is drinkin 26l each 100km, whilst on petrol is drinking 18l each 100km, which is about 30% more in consuming.

Thanks

I also have a 4.5L Dual Fuel Manual. My consumption figures are 16L/100K's on ULP and 18L/100K's on LPG. My Truck is stock standard but has been tuned by a LPG Specialist

Hi Bob, Nice Figures , can you have to tell me where you got your Tune up done , I'm lucky to get 430kms per 90 litre tank LPG and 220kms on the Sub of ULP , if the Workshop is in Bendigo, I think I make the trip for tune up cheers Alex

Hi Guys, my figures are similar than yours Altech... anyway, since this car is clearly going to be a second car (not used on daily basis) I can assume the extra cost of going in fuel.

But now my problem is to find all the spares to go back and I have located the main ones: Fuel sender, fuel pump and tank, bit since the fuel pump and fuel sender comes from a TB45 like mine, the Tank comes from a GU series IV, so I'm not sure if it is going to fit...

I'm looking over internet but I'm not able to find any reference about the compatibility of tanks between models, specially this case that is from a 2008 model to a 1998 model...

The thing is that I'm interested in this 2008 GU tank because I can pick it up in my neighborough and also because if it comes from a newer model suposedly will be in better shape than an older one...

90 Litres per 430 K's equates to 20.93Litres per 100K's.
Does your Patrol have a Lift and does it have Roof Rack also different size wheels as all of this affects Consumption

Nah mate its rubbish. stick with the LPG if you can.

Re the tanks! the rear tank is the same from the 1988 GQ through to the 2011 GU8. regardless of petrol or diesel. The fuel sender will go straight in and you will have no trouble. Dont get romantic about the 2008 tank. Its just a tank and they are cheap and all over the place! There are so many of them that i smashed mine with a sledge hammer and dumped it at the tip just last week. Worthless. If he is chasing coin for his then walk away. $50 or less or the deal is off.

My GQ tank went to the Tip too. anyone that has fitted a Long range rear tank has one of them in the junk pile. Go to the local ARB or TJM and they will have a pile of them out the back they are paying to get rid of!

Your sender will drop straight in.

As the boys have stated, stick with LPG and go a LRA 75lt belly tank. Most LPG converted GUs have a 75lt belly tank anyway. Dont be fooled by a single servo that is ripping off the travellers. Plenty, and i mean Plenty of guys travelling this country towing their van on LPG and not getting ripped off like that. If it is that expensive there then fill with petrol and drive on but every time you switch to LPG you save cash.

******Please head over to the intro section and post up an introduction mate, we like folks to say g'day before asking for advice.

Have fun here.
