Hey everyone cheers for having a read! So I have got my first patrol as of about 5 days ago, Whilst driving it home I noticed while accelerating I have an abrupt power loss at around 80 in 4th and 95 in 5th ( may do it in all gears not too sure ) and it then doesnt pick up speed, If I take my foot off the accelerator completely and then re accelerate I pick up about another 10-15k's then It cuts out again, this goes on until I get up to speed... any indeas in what the hells going on? should I be worried?
Mods are : 5 inch lift, 33's, 3 inch exhaust from turbo back, also looks like the egr has a blocking plate, its a 1998 GU 2.8 TDI.

Do the 2.8's have a TPS of any sort?

I know where you're going, and agree with you mate. If they have a TPS, bound to be a prime suspect based on the information given. Ryan's was doing something similar at low revs and it was the loom going into the TPS ...

Yeah they do have a TPS I'm pretty sure, So i've just cleaned the MAF with the correct spray ( MAF cleaner ) from super cheap, and the issue is gone, But now it seems like the cars slower all round?

Block the EGR, remove the butterfly, clean out the inlet manifold, run it on 200 to 1 two stroke.
Blocking the EGR will let it spool up about 300 rpm quicker lol.
Also check that the intercooler fan does work!

Hey mate the EGR seems to already have a blocking plate from what I can see ( previous owner must have done it ). whats thre best way to test the intercooler fan? Just let the vehicle idle until it kicks in? how long should it take? cheers...

The 2.8 has what looks like a blocking plate but isn't, so best to loosen it and see if you can poke some wire through into the manifold..
To test the fan, hide under the bonnet and get someone to drive it and you can watch it. ( just kidd'n), dunno how you would test it, Yendor would know.

I didn't even know they had a fan as standard.
For the fan to come on the intercooler air temp. sender has to be reading above 67 deg. and engine RPM has to be above 1600rpm.
The best way to check the fan's operation is to meet the above requirements and then with a piece of A4 paper place it over the intercooler.
If the paper get sucked onto the cooler then it is working.
