View Full Version : Done my clutch... I think

Winnie

Hey guys. Went fourbying today, only really easy stuff as only had my road tyres on, couple of mid size puddles but nothing deep at all. Got bogged in one of them, there was water in the hole but like I said nothing deep. Waited for my brother in law to show up and pull me out, no dramas there. Left straight away and on the way back to a mates house noticed the clutch was slipping a little bit. When I left there to drive home it was slipping real bad, almost undrivable. Really hoping I don't need a new clutch, any advice?

Yeah first thing I checked. All fine of course. Going to do the ring around and find the best price. Not hopeful to get it done under $1200. Think I'll go Exedy too, bro in law got a 4 Terrain and hates it.

Where ya slave cylinder is the thing its connected to has a rubber boot on it (at the bell housing) pull the rubber boot off without fubar it and shove the hose in the hole not too far or ya may rip the hose in there and flush flush flush

pumiing it just engages and dis engages and presses all the shit in more just run it bin neutral and wash wash wash. ive done it a lot of times at Loveday and everyone says dont pump the clutch! So i listen and has always come good for me. Including cruiser dude who had the same dramas

Winnie

Growler you are an absolute champion (though I'm sure you knew that?), how long should I flush it out for?
So engine running in neutral and what's that, pump the clutch heaps? LMAO roger that!

So has this worked for you when your clutch was slipping? It's pretty bad, can barely get any power down before it will start to slip.

Hey Growler would I be fine to get up in the morning and shove the hose in and leave it running for half an hour - an hour or would that be over-doing it?

Curious about this as I just went through some mud holes and my slave cylinder boot may be put back together with sikaflex at the moment, thought I was just imagining my clutch slipping in third today......

It won't hurt and yep I had almost zero drive and the hose fixed it

Took it for a quick drive this morning and it had gotten worse. Slipping in 2nd as well now and grinding in 4th. Flushed it out but made no difference. Too scared to drive it like this. Called RACV but hey want to take it somewhere I refuse to go. Now I'm gonna have to pay for a f***in tow truck as well!

Faaarrrrrkkkk mate well when you get over the shock of the out of pocket and except that it had to be done when it is all fitted up you will be happy in that respect!!!

Dont think of the I could have spent the money on eating or paying the mortgage because with the mighty GQ back in action you can live in it and hunt for your food, he he !!!!!

Hope it all works out and if you do it your self I am full of fresh advice!!!

Well the Gippsland 4WD Centre in Traralgon were a great help! They are the RACV depot in Traralgon and when I rang RACV they put me through to them. Came and towed it free of charge and are fitting up a 4 Terrain HD clutch fitted and flywheel machined for $1300

thought you said you might not fit that clutch up

any way the moral of this story is stay out of the mud unless you really really have to go in it
and in growlers case he cant help him self and must be nearly in withdrawl symptoms by now ---pmsl

Winnie
10th September 2012, 10:41 AM
It was the only one anywhere in Traralgon had in stock, Exedy was gonna cost an extra $250 on top of that and they all said my brother-in-law must have a dodgey one and their work and the clutch is warranted.

I don't blame the mud, the mud is my friend. For the original 1992 clutch to last 299850kms ain't bad really!

Can't complain about that. 300k is a good run.
