I've got the rb30 carb and I bought the complete gas set up a few months ago it's just sitting in the garage. Should I put it in the car? I know it's a lot cheaper to run. Does anyone have any problems running these older cars on dual fuel Or am I best off just getting a long range tank installed?

You will need to have it installed by a Registered Installer.
Had a 1991 4.2 Carby with Gas and it had chalked up over 550,000 K's before I sold it.

If it were me, I wouldn't do it. No telling what problems it could cause. I'd stick to petty and get a long range tank........... But that's just my opinion

GAS KILLS ENGINES, plus with the price of gas now it's not worth putting in. plus its going up again soon
x2 on the long range tank only need an 800km range in Aust, between stops.
longer is just a bonus eg the Canning stock route.

That's what I thought do you reckon a long range tank as stated above or can I just get an aux tank 75ltr put in next to the standard 90ltr?

All I've done is replace that stupid 30lt tank, with a 75 lt aux, I'm more than confident of going anywhere is Aus.
Might even be able to do the Simmo in one hit, but would take extra fuel anyway.
Really depends if you need to carry that much fuel? Great when prices are down.

I could of got a complete gas setup for free from a kind member on this forum, but decided with the way gas is going up that it wasn't in my best interest to pay freight of the tank form QLD to Sydney ( and I could of got transport relatively cheap ), then pay some one to install it.
I didn't think it was really worth it.
You might save a few $$$ converting it to gas but also might end up costing you more than what its worth.
Cheers

I have a 4.5 Gu and use 16 Litres per 100 k"s on Petrol @ say $1.40 = $22-.40
18 Ltres per 100 k"s on Gas @ $1.20 = $21.60. Gas is nowhere near $1.20 per Litre At present 69c in Bendigo
My Car has done 280,000k's on Gas with no ill efects. Ensure it is well tuned and regularly put a Tank full of Petrol through it .
Saying that I have seen Motors with burnt out valves at 100,000 K's

I had a rb30 running dual fuel in my MK, I had the motor tunned for gas operation.
The bid advantage I found running gas was not staving for fuel on a big hill while 4wding.
I run the truck on petrol only once 4wding - and very quickly switch back to gas.

Hey BOB, What if you put say $30 of gas in and $30 of ULP in. how many Ks will you get from each???????
Would like to know if you got say 120 Ks out of ULP
Gas I'm not sure you would get 240 Ks out of gas
Will be very interested in this one

As a yard stick I have found that I use 1.5 l of gas compared to petrol
$30.00 $1.50 20 6.25 125
$30.00 $0.60 50 4.2 208
$30 petrol = 20 Litres (at $1.50L) using 16L / per 100 k =125 Km range
$30 gas =50 Litres (at $.60) using 24L / per 100 k =208 Km range

Well lets say gas goes up to $1.00 a litre in two years as a guess. (These tax laws take a long time to pass IF they pass according to my girlfriend who's studying law) How much savings will you have in the meantime?
If a supply and install costs $2000 for a dual fuel setup and you say you went 15000kms a year, so 30000kms in two years
Using current prices of petrol and gas until and basing it on MK Tanks figures:
Gas usage @ 60c/l : 30000kms using 24l/100km = 7200 litres = 7200 x 60c/l = $4320
Petrol usage @ 140c/l (ULP 91) : 30000kms using 18l/100km = 5400 litres = 5400 x 140c/l = $7560
So adding the install cost of $2000 (I guessed at this, not sure what the rebate is these days if at all) to the gas figure of $4320 you still come out on top at $6320
Now at the proposed new gas prices:
Gas usage @ 100c/l : 30000kms using 24l/100km = 7200 litres = 7200 x 100c/l = $7200
So at these figures it starts making the gas on par as cost per km, but the thing you have to consider is how much petrol prices will increase aswell.
All of this is circumstantial as gas prices may not (probably wont) increase to 100c/l anyway.
Also the reason the heads go are because people let the engine get hot and don't do anything about it, these engines do not like to be hot, I'm on petrol and my temp gauge sits between 1/4 and 1/3, my girlfriends dad is dual fuel but only runs it on gas and his sits at about 1/3 or so, I've driven other patrols when I was in the market that were at about 2/3 at running temp and the blokes didn't seem to think it was an issue, called one guy back and he said it's still for sale but he dropped three grand off the price because it blew a head. Simple stuff like a good coolant system flush to get rid of build ups and adjusting tappets make all the difference in the reliability of the TB42 on gas.
