Am not a nissan owner yet but looking long and hard for a GU Patrol, can only afford a pre 2002 3.0 TD and am shit scared that I might be buying a grande that I have recently read about :(

Am only going to use it as a daily driver and to tow the 18ft caravan when on holidays which wieghs about 1500kgs so should be able to handle that easy enough and might save the wifes Xtrail from an early retirement..

Feel free to give me some tips on what to look for when going over a GU..

Welcome mate, surely the best forum on the net. If you need it, you can get it, if you want to know it, just ask it.

might have found a 2007 Patrol in my price range, are these models immune to the engine woes of earlier ones?

Gday mate welcome to the forum, if your looking at 2002 ZD30's I assume your price range is 14 grand + so I myself would be wondering why a 2007 was going 4-6 grand cheaper than you would expect it too as a asking price. May be that it's clapped out and needs work.

My advice, Save up and get a TD42 turbo, you won't ever look back

yeah have been looking at the 2001 and 2002 models, the TD42 is way outa my price range unless I buy one with 400,000km's... cars in QLD are so much dearer than cars in VIC :(

Hi and welcome. The 2007 has a bigger sump that helps solve the problem but it would still be wise to block the EGR and limit the boost so it cant spike and instal a pyro to keep an eye on exhaust temps. These things will all help prevent a piston failure.

Welcome to the forum mate, if your budget is around 10-15k then why not consider getting a GQ td42 in great condition and possibly a few extra mods already done.

Food for thought anyway mate and feel free to ask any questions!
