Overdrive in gu patrol playing up

Hi all, I have a 2008 gu patrol auto, and the ''OD OFF" dash light keeps appearing as well as it obviously shits me off when my cats revving a lot more than it should be, sometimes it will randomly come on and off whilst I'm driving as well, any help on the matter will be much appreciated, thanks
