View Full Version : Can't get my nuts off

Thought I'd bring this to every ones attention, this is only the second time its happened to me.
Luckily I was at home. I could not for the love of me get my front wheel nuts loose so I could fit my Muddies. Now if I was out 4x4ing on the weekend and peeled a tyre off,,, this thread would be entirely different. Please check your wheel nuts and torque them up accordinally. If you can't un do them in your driveway theres no way in hell you'll do it out bush. My 4x4 shop normally uses torque ends on their rattle guns. Not going there again only get one chance with Nev the mighty Nissan

Why would you want to become a unic ?

Hey threedogs,

you might have to tighten your grip on your breaker bar if you want to get your nuts off, or you could try using the other hand ;)

I carry a rather large (over a metre) steel bar in the car at all times to make sure I have a long enough lever to remove any over tightened bolts. This works really well for me.

One thing that has become quite common is a torque multiplier.
Or my mate was saying he bought a cheap 12 volt rattle gun from aldi and his wife loves it she can now get the wheels off easy

Yeah brought a 12v Wheel nut remover, still didn't shift them. not rattle gun style
Alls good though my nuts are loose, time to get dirty.

threedogs,

You might need to think about some sort of support as your nuts are now loose ;)

OH!, you're talking about tyres, I completely misunderstood. Thanks for clearing that up, It was hard(pardon the pun)keeping things family friendly.

I do. It's a pain in the proverbials but totally worth it in my opinion. There is no compromise and you really get the best of ALL worlds.
Silverstone Extremes in the mud and Maxxis AT700 everywhere else.

never had a punture off road, only on job sites and nothing a plug wont fix always seem to roll or get a leaking bead though, i always check the studs when i get back from a service or tyre store.

I used to run 35" pedes offroad and 33" BFG AT's on road and got over changing tyres. Now I just run 33" Kumho KL71's all the time. I don't mind driving on muddies all the time though, I just turn the music up a tad louder to remove the sound on any mud tyre howl that can occur

Love that golf tee idea, yeah getting over running two sets, mainly for the room it takes up.
BUT, want a very quiet set for HWY, and somthing aggressive for off road trips, not sure the M/T 4 rib ATZ would cut it

I run 2 sets on my GQ but its coming off the road shortly to only run 37's. It does get a little annoying sometimes but saves me destroying my mud tyres on the bitumen and vice versa. If I kill one of my larger tyres they can go in the shed til funds permit to get it repaired/replaced. I also dont get my 35's balanced to save a few dollars so cant run them on the road anyway. I run 33" maxxis 751 bravos on the road and 35x10.5 simex centipedes when playing.

Yeah it will be more of a play/comp style setup. I have my GU for the touring side of things.

Nice one, NO flat tyres yet by the way, look forward to the pics.
Up your way the trucks seem to be higher 5" 6" high
Down here Comp trucks are 3" 4" high, remote canister coil over shocks in all corners {king] and soft as

I Have found most winch challenge vehicles are around the 5" mark.
