Hi All,
Just bought a 96 model GQ, and am completely new to the 4x4 scene. It currently has a cracked head ( or blown gasket, but that is a hopefull outlook) and can't wait to start driving it once I have fixed it.

The GQ is an ex 96-98 police car serviced regularly, and already has a long range tank, winch bar, and power assist brakes. and has an RD28T
Does anyone have any tips for what I should do to it first? and no I'm not sticking a TD42 in it :P

apart from replacing the head, I am going get a new aluminium 3 core radiator and a new temp guage, and some basic recovery gear. I've heard that a 3" exhaust is good for the RD28T's as well...

I'm missing the 3rd "dickie" seat if anyone wants to sell one, but I am in no hurry for it, so just keeping watch till i see a cheap one

I have one here and i need a head for it as well but i decided whilst the head is off i might as well put new big ends and rings in it.
Heres a few things that will help the rd28 survive egr block off contact the ferret on here have the injectors done a provent catch can a genuine thermostat and clutch fan hub water pump.
Whilst the head is off check all of the cylinders for cracks especially number 5 wich seems to be the most common.
Loctite the balancer bolt.
And i have recently heard of a few people being unfortunate enough to have a timing belt tensioner fail bending valves.
so i would use genuine parts for that as well.
