as per title really. I'm looking to buy a long range main tank (so around 146l) to replace the main on my 2010 GU.

What are the major differences between the brands?

So far i'm looking at

LongRanger - $1030
Outback Accessories - $1130

what other brands are there out there, and what are people's experiences with the different ones?

I have a Long Ranger 147lt out of a GQ in my GUIV (bolts straight in) worth looking around for a second hand on e au if you can find one. LRA belly tank is a whole other story though! Rare as bloody hens teeth.

LRA are highly regqrded

Yeah Maree and Mt Dare were up around $1.99 too. To
My surprise Birdsville were fairly reasonable considering

I've been hunting for a second hand belly tank for a GQ for a while now and as MR suggested they are rare as.

Have you considered bolting on an auxiliary tank like this?
eBay AUX GU Tank (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LONG-RANGE-FUEL-TANK-NISSAN-PATROL-GU-WAGON-AUX-75-LTR-TANK-/110759690324?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19c9cac054#ht_2769wt_1029)

I have, but you gain less than by replacing the main tank.

that being said, if i could get a proper Long range belly tank for a good price.... :D

Wouldn't a long range belly tank sit lower than your sliders though?

not the "proper" GU ones that i've seen - they're level with the bottom of the chassis. the GQ long range subs that i've seen (the one that I owned for a few weeks, plus Mike's) *DO* swing low tho

Ahhh righteo, knew about the GQs but wasn't sure about the GUs, wouldn't mind changing my main to a long ranger.

It's more for the peace of mind when i'm on a long run. especially seeing as casper can get a bit thirsty when being flogged...

You could get a custom one made but you can forget the cheap part....

But at least Casper doesn't like to take big slurps and drain the tank as soon as you turn the key, not like the clunker lol

What are people's thoughts about the risks of a second hand long range tank?

Tipsy-tap

I Wouldnt hesitate on one if i could pick it up for 2-300 bucks, as long as there wasnt any serious rust i couldnt fix, eg rust holes. Even if there was a hole punched through it i would consider it, you just need to know a competent welder to fix it but i wouldnt be paying 300 for it in that case. The trick is not knowing what exactly to look for with these sorts of things but bringing someone who does, haha. Good luck with it all mate.
