View Full Version : Dual battery - which way for the terminals?

Just installed the second battery holder, and am getting ready to wire up the system.

Which way around do most people have the battery? Terminals closest to guard or motor? Positive to the front or rear?

I was initially thinking of buying an identical battery to that already fitted (N70ZZ) and putting terminals closest to the guard, which means positive to rear. Only problem I forsee is that it is already fairly congested at that point with the Provent, ABS module, etc in that corner, which makes installing a fuse box more challenging. Using a N70ZZL puts the positive terminal to the front, which seems to have a little more room, but this would mean different batteries so no ability to swap if one becomes damaged.

How is yours set up? Pics would be helpful too :)

I've negative to the front because it's easier to get it connected to the body that way.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter but would be good to face engine.

That way your not running cables over the battery. Also, the negative if faced that way should be towards the front of the car and easily tap into the motor for the earth.

Positive on back side closest to run all your accessories and rear set up into the cab.

EDIT: BEAT ME FLO-W!!!!...lmao

It doesn't really matter, just make the battery cables long enough so you can fit either battery.

With the fuse box just run the cable in conduit and you will have no problems.

Most dual batteries isolators have the ability to manually link the batteries so the need to "swap if one becomes damaged" is of no real concern.

Learn from my experience.

The positive terminal and oil dipstick aren't good friends.

It was like Guy Fawkes night. hahahahahhahah - now

The positive terminal and oil dipstick aren't good friends.
I have ordered a replacement cover for my positive terminal for exactly this reason. Metal watch bands can have similar results, and heat up extremely quickly. Leather or rubber is the only way for me now.
(I'll wait for someone to take that out of context!)

Luckily the second battery is not in the vicinity of any dipsticks, but it's also made me think about access to the oil filter. Leaning more towards having the terminals on the guard side, so less chance of touching them with the torque wrench or breaker bar.
