i dont really recall the ticking before but the engine oil was really black and thick
did the valve timing and changed oil and filter and now the ticking is noticable.
rb30 SOHC

could it just be a case of thicker oil needed?
do i really need to worry about it?

i would think its the lifters but that not exactly a cheap fix.
besides im planning on one of these mid next year hehehe

Might be a case of thinner oil needed what grade did you use.
And did you use an engine oil flush before dumping the old oil.
Also does it go away once the engine heats up.

Rb motors are prone to the tick had 2 vls and sister gad a vl turbo all 3 had the tick and hard lives and never had a problem if you can bear the noise

Give it a decent run and see how it goes they can come good on their own.
Or You could try a litre of trans fluid lol.
It is common for crud to get stirred up after an oil change and block them as well .
If it were mine i would try an engine oil flush treatment and then change the oil to a 10w50
If that didn't work i'd take the lifters out and clean them and check them wich would probably be the best place to start but i am all for a trying an easy fix lol.
