Without naming anyone I spoke to a very "knowledgable" patrol enthusiast on the weekend about egt on td42.

He mentioned how they are fine for 600-700 no probs. 650 start to back off.

I know this has been discussed to death but not on td42 particularly so what is your limit?

Personally I'm like a tennis match watcher at 500 and back off at 550...lol

Yeah they can handle it but cause of variances in turbos etc 500-550 is the general safe limit. This will keep a lot of people from ever getting anywhere near hurting there TD42's. You can have EGT's up around the 700 mark pre turbo but differences in turbos and other factors will vary the temp post turbo. You can have variances of 100 degrees or more between pre and post turbo temps. This I think is why the general limit is 500-550 post turbo.

Depends where your egt gauge is mate pre turbo or post turbo also depends on factory turbo td or not

Should of clarified it. Most of us will be reading post turbo and above is based on standard ht-18 factory turbo.

I dont let mine get past 500 running 14psi 3/4 turn more fuel and 3" exhaust with pyro post turbo.

Auber instruments gauges have the ability to set an alarm, mine is set to come on at 525c and go off at 475c. When I see the alarm light come on I try to get the foot off the gas and let it come back down below 475c

My pyro probe is post turbo.

AB, Were those figures pre or post turbo what sort of boost figures do the HT-18 turbo put out. I am curious about all this as I'm trying to get a good balance of longevity and performance on my rig.

I should have mentioned my figures are on a stock ht18 turbo with standard intercooler. I have had my boost as high as 22psi
