Has anyone done this or looked into it.
Looking at the specs and prices it seems to be a viable option.
VQ30DET

The 3.0 L (2987 cc) VQ30DET is a turbocharged version of the VQ30DE. Bore and stroke remain the same at 93 mm and 73.3 mm respectively, and it has a compression ratio of 9.0:1. It produces 270 PS (200 kW; 270 hp) and 271 lb·ft (367 N·m). From 1998 onwards, it produces 280 PS (210 kW; 280 hp) @6000 rpm and 285 lb·ft (386 N·m) @3600 rpm.

Os that the motor from the 300 zx or the newer 350/370 z car. I almost bought a 300 zx coupe twin turbo till I found out parts and labour cost to work on them but great motors when on song

That was the vg30dett seen a few of them in patrols but this one is a single turbo producing similar torque figures.
The VG30DETT was first developed for the 1987 MID4-II and produced 330 PS (240 kW).[1] It was the last of the four-valve, belt drive DOHC turbocharged engines into production, being preceded by the CA18DET and RB20DET.

The production 3.0 L (2,960 cc) VG30DETT produces 300 hp (224 kW) and 283 lb·ft (384 N·m) when mated with a five-speed manual transmission. When mated with the four-speed automatic transmission, it was rated at 280 hp (209 kW) and 283 lb·ft (384 N·m) of torque. It featured hybrid twin T22/TB02 turbochargers, twin intercoolers, and NVCS (Nissans Valve Timing Control System). The VG30DETT utilizes an iron block with aluminum heads. Domestic Japanese market cars claimed 280 PS (206 kW), as the Japanese automobile manufacturers were limited to that number.

206KW was an agreement the Jap car manufactures set amongst themselves .
They self regulated if ya like, so as not to start blowing out production costs.

The gear box in 300ZX is said to be the same one behind the RB30 GQ which is weaker than the GQ4.2 boxes.
cheers

Yeah the rd28 has the same box and quite a few people are running them with rb25's and they are holding up gives me something to think about doing anyway just to be different lol.
I have a nice gq here with an rd28 that needs a head i am either going to rering it with new big ends and buy a head or do a conversion of some sort.
