Hello,
Im looking at buying a 3ltr turbo cab chassis from about 2006 and to 2009 model. I have heard a rumour that the 3ltr can blow the pistons. Is this or was this true for earlier models and if so is it worth taking into consideration within the years 2006 to 2009?
Thank you for your time.

Only the pre 2003 had major problems they were the direct injection motors.
The CRD seems to be ok so far.
Cheers, the ferret.

Overboosting was an issue for my 06 & didn't know until I fitted boost gauge.
There are plently of 'fixes' available to sort it but as The ferret said, the crd is good so far

They're all direct injection motors, ZD30s that is.
And yes it is not a rumour, its true they still keep blowing not just up to 2003 models. As mentioned above, if you MUST, go for CrD version from 2007 onwards but to avoid problems with early Crd pick later around 2009. Any earlier and here is a list you are expected to do to prolong the life of the motor:
boost gauge, exhaust gas temperature probe and gauge, bigger exhaust, block EGR, boost limiter and spool controller, CCV catch can, fiddle with adjustment of variable geometry turbocharger actuator, glow plug timer, extra fuel lift pump, better/bigger intercooler, bigger bonnet scoope (last two are optional)
It is still a lottery though and wouldn't go astray on CrD either.
Cheers
