is it true of the y60 that AT fluid can only be added via the dipstick tube? thanks

I should add, normally you check the fluid dipstick when the car has been driven and is at running temp, also normally check while the engine is running transmission in "P" park.
You can use a small funnel to fill, some 1L ATF bottles have a little spout (this is becoming rare now tho) be carefull to not overfill it, it takes time to settle going down the tube so can give false readings, if in doubt stop adding fluid, and go for a drive, then re-check, even when you are all finished, it pays to check again after a drive.
Now, i doubt it will matter on such a old car, but it is important theses days to check you are using the correct fluid for your gearbox (they have different grades) check in your owners manual, or someone on here will confirm whats best.
Another thing i like to do with all my autos, is to add some Lucas Auto Transmission Treatment, (about $20 from auto stores), i was never one to believe any thing in a "bottle" could do "anything" for a gearbox, but this stuff really works, and if you are just topping up the gearbox id just use this, add in the same way (the bottle comes with a nozzle for easy filling) its thick so slow to fill, but worth the effort in my opinion, again don't overfill.
Make sure you use a lint free rag to wipe the dipstick, you do not want any fluff or contaminents in your auto, they are way more sensitive than your engine for this.

Khm. Hi guys!
When I change my AT fluid in service station they changed it using a pipes before cooler (in bottom of front radiator). They connect the pump between gearbox and radiator cooler, then they fill up pump gearbox by new oil, and pump out old fluid.
So, if you are already drain all old fluid nothing block you to fill up gear box through the hoses after radiator to gearbox.
