View Full Version : Moving to WA, Worth keeping my GQ and unmodding for roadworthy?

Hey, I don't know if this is a good spot to post this but here we go. I'm moving to WA in about 4-6 months and am questioning if it's worth keeping my GQ and changing stuff so I can pass road worthy or just sell it and buy a stock GU and start again with road legal mods.

Mods I think will need changing:
~Brand new 35" tyres, what is the Legal limit in WA?
~Front and rear mud flaps need extending past the width of the tyres
~8" lift, I think it's only springs, shocks, and body lift. could swap out parts with standard for free I would imagine.
~4 Door Ute chop, Not sure if this will pass? any ideas?
~GU upgraded front seats, not sure if these are legal but are all bolted in using standard holes.
~Rego and Body VIN doesn't match, have checked them out online and both VIN's are clear. They are a bit different, have been told this is to do with the body chop and GAS conversion??? I haven't looked into it in fear of having my car taken off me :( It hasn't been Mod plated for the chop either. It is a Maverick but plated from the ford and nissan motor co, does this seem legit?
~From what I can tell, the rear of the chassis has also been trimmed where the stock bumper would have mounted and the place where the hoop in the middle of the rear bar has been changed to a Tow bar hitch receiver for higher clearance.

If these seem like too much work I think I'll sell it and use the coin to get a stock GU.

As above mate, time to start all over again..... It'll be a long drawn out process and mega bucks getting that over the pits here, tis sad to say. Would have loved to have seen that bad boy up close

Keep the GQ, Just don't move to WA *L*

Sell it mate while you can there, but don't wast your money on a GU, buy another GQ :)

Gq over here in the main are overpriced, that's why I bought a gu, if I could have found a gq reasonably priced I would have considered one!

As Stropp said, GQ's are stupidly priced over here in WA

Mate bring it over here and sell it, the comp scene is just taking off with a new one in the planing stages now.
Oh and when you get over here you will have to change your forum name to SAND.....lol

Where are you going to be located in WA mate?

I moved over from Qld, did most of my mods, ie lift etc before I registered my bus in WA, and I didn't even have to run it over the pits? I just filled out the transfer form, took my old plates in, paid the fee, got my new plates and away I went? I did that about 4-5 years ago and haven't had to register a vehicle since, so not sure if it has changed?

EDIT- I just properly read the mods on MS's Trol...my mods are not that extreme. :1087:

Not sure where I'm moving to yet, want it to be close to a Uni and hopefully close to some tracks of some sort.

What is a going price for a stock or stock-ish GQ? In TAS a tidy stock GQ is around 8-9K, a cheap GU is 12-14K. I reckon I could get around 14K for my Patrol or swap it for something stock and tidy. The main mods are: Brand new Goodyear Wranglers Kevlar 35's brand new Mechanical front locker, brand new re shimmed rear LSD, all new bearings and seals in the front and rear end, swivel hub rebuild. older mods, BIG sound system, ARB winch bar, 9,500LBS Iron man winch with wireless and wired controllers, Light force spotties, UHF, Full ULP with Sub tank, + the cool ute chop. Spares: complete GAS setup, 5 spare 35" tyres with about 5-7mm tread left, heaps of recovery gear.

You need to put every car over the pits these days when you register them in another state.

Just saw this thread mat. I'll buy it off you if you keep the tb42 and turbo it instead of putting the rb26 in.:-)
