What to look for inside a failed later model lsd

The diff in my 97 gq was making unhealthy noises .
Anyway i pulled it out and fitted an earlier type center i had here.
And the other day i pulled the old one apart it has 4 pinion gears and different setup.
If you look at the red arrow you can see where it is flogged out pretty bad.
