Hi guys, can someone shed some light on torque wrenches, I was at a mates place and he had one that clicked loudley when at the right torque, do they all do that??
Can anyone recomend one for me to get.I would not use it much so i dont need the dearest one out there but as long as its accurate.I was thinking $100-$150 or will that just get me junk.
Any thoughts ???

yeah but a torque wrench is an entirely different tool, used to torque eg wheel nuts, head bolts. this is a hi torque rattle gun thingy
That TENG tool is what I was thinking of

Mine is SOOOOO good it hasn't got a brand name ;-) However a bloke I worked with who is a mechanical engineer did his thesis at uni on fasteners. He told me a torque wrench can be plus or minus 10% this came about when an auditor wanted calibration reports in his torque wrenches. Also affected by the operator
Auditor won regardless hahahhaa
Here's mine anyway got newton meters and foot pound

Do you remember if it clicks and releases the presure when torque is reached.

When the torque is reached it will click, don't know of any torque wrenches that releases the presure when the torque is reached. But then again I have not used many torque wrenches

I've got the Sidchrome one here .. does the clicking when you reach the torque setting, but doesn't release pressure.
http://www.sidchrome.com.au/products/deflecting-beam-torque-wrench-12-drive-10-160nm-
A vid I watched suggested the deflecting beam may be more accurate as there are no coils under pressure like the "classic" ones .. but it's the first time I've used one so who knows.
Just used it to mount the recovery point .. worked a treat. I think it was around the $100 -$150 you were looking at

Hey guys just so you know, that one that looked like a rattle gun is electronicly controled. They are don't rattle but wind up using planerty gears and when the torque is reached they just stop. We use a cordless one at work and it is fantastic. Ours goes up 2 3000ft/lb and costs as much as a small country. Not sure if it would put teddy down for the count but. lol

I'd like one of these warren & brown ones http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Warren-Brown-imperial-tension-torque-wrench-model-no-322000-good-old-tool-/261078434289?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc97cc1f1
But instead i have one of these supercheap ones http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/SCA-Torque-Wrench-1-2-Drive.aspx?pid=214305#Description
It does the job clicks like you say but doesn't release if it did you would bash your knuckes up.
One thing to remember though is always take the tension all the way out when you have finished using them .

A slight thread hijack
Just looked at the Warren and Brown torgue wrench on ebay, then looked at what else he was selling, have a look at the bottle of Stones GGWhttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Old-bottle-Stones-green-ginger-wine-bottled-Angoves-p-l-1pt-6fl-oz-/261078965947?_trksid=p4340.m444&_trkparms=algo%3DCRX%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DSI%25 2BUA%252BLM%252BLA%26otn%3D12%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D 1292050438561849019, i reckon that would be absolutely wicked, or vile.
Don't know if the stomach could handle that.

The ones like the Teng Trolatron bought kind of roll when they reach the setting - feels like they are breaking. They also make some noise.
The deflecting beam ones like the Warren and Brown make a click as the little piston is set free. With these ones it is important to get into the habit of reseting the piston each time it clicks off.
Don't use either of them as breaker bars nor to turn in the wrong direction. Not 100% sure that is always a sin with the Teng type, but would start there unless the manual says different. With the Teng type, always reset the torque back to 0 in accordance with the instructions before storing away.
There are all kinds of 'rules' about torque settings too - whether the fastener is lubricated or not, for instance, affects the amount of torque required to produce the required result.

Hi Guys,
I find the TengTools gear is always great to use and had no faults with any of there tools. Backing off when not is use is the way to go to and I also come back up off the hard Zero set a tade. Warren Brown are really good to just no rotation locking clip on my old ones.
I always torque important nuts with some tread lube and use at least three or four settings. 50% 80% 90% 100% approx. Watch those Ali head studs though. Torque and recheck after been hot were you can.
