stupid question - will going EFI on a RB30 give more power when running LPG.

Im running a rb30s dual fuel - manly on LPG.

I have a complete VL efi setup - but not sure if I will gain power if I convert to EFI running LPG.

Lpg won't use the efi system ... It'll bypass it so unless you mean injected LPG system, it won't gain any power in my understanding.

Others may have other input mate.

I don't understand how LPG works, but I know that my TB42E on gas goes a fair bit harder than my mate's TB42 on gas.

A common problem on a carb lpg conversion is the secondary not opening in the carb on lpg.
I modified one years ago to open the secondary manually under heavy acceleration and it made a huge improvement power wise.
Especially up big hills.
And timing plays a big role their is a compromise either way running lpg and petrol you can't have the best of both .
If i had a carb lpg one again i would be experimenting with something like a dual stage boost controller on the vacuum advance line
as lpg likes more initial timing and less over all it would be interesting to try and see .

With efi you could run a dual map eprom in the ecu and have completely different timing maps that switch when you change fuels and make the most of them.
And using a gas research throttle body will be better with airflow then the impco or other style units wich can be quite restricive.

i just injected my rb30 and upgraded the lpg and it really did go a helluva lot better than the old carbied lpg,i had to upgrade the lpg system as the old impco system wouldnt work on the injection system..i really couldnt notice any difference in the power between the gas and the petrol untill i was hitting around the 4k rev range,in my opinion its well worth doing the conversion and according to my soninlaw who did the conversion it was very straitforward to do the job..i like it a lot..with the carby on lpg i pretty much had very little power when towing my campertrailer which ways in at 1100kg especially going up hills, now i dont even have to drop it back to 4th unless its a big steep hill,,i got to admit coming outve perth going up realy steep hills andd having to stick to the sped limit of 80k i did have to go back to 3rd a few times but on the hiways sitting on 100ks i was pretty happy with having no problem goin uphill, sitting on an average of 100kmh we where getting 20liitres to 100kms economy and i was happy wiith that to..like 97 gq said about duel maps id like to look into that, sounds like it could be a good thing

If your interested checkout http://www.nistune.com/support.php
You can use it to live tune get everything right then save the tunes and put them on to a $10 eprom then sell it.
Or if you get a hold of an lpg timing map for an rb30 i can load it onto an eprom i also have performance rb30 tunes here and i have a setup i made to load 4 tunes on and switch between them.
The patrol being heavier then a vl though they would have to be tested for detonation knock under load.
you could run a light load performance tune a towing heavy load tune for petrol and the same for gas once setup.
