Hey Mego,

I had a similar screwdriver hole put in my Calais - if you can put up with the slight imperfection of the lock itself, my panel beater fixed mine by welding up the hole and repainting for around $250 - $300 dollars. I am in Ringwood Melbourne if that helps.....

Ah well ask for new ones all round not as if it is coming out of your pocket.
I'd be asking to see the doorskin being replaced as well as most panel shops will charge the insurance company for it and then repair it that looks like a very easy repair to me.
I can't see why they would go to the trouble of replacing it .

Hijacking my own thread.
NEW SHITTY TAIPAN EXHAUST.
I have had some issues with my Taipan 3" exhaust. First I had rattling from the rear of the exhaust and found the rear rubber mount had come off the bracket, put it back on and all good. Second, where I have rubbing or touching in places where it would be hitting when my truck was loaded(i.e.: full roof bag on roof rack, loaded boat in tow) and they stopped the hitting by putting a piece of rubber on suspension components2358023581
All rattling and noises have stopped and I thought great but still disappointed at the way it was fixed, to me it's just a band aid fix, but I guess no noise is good enough.
Now, I get rattling and ticking again but the noises are completely different than the first time but still can hear that it was exhaust related, went to Kmart Auto, cos their open today to see if they can get it up on the hoist to check it out.
This is what they found. 23582
A cracked middle exhaust mounting bracket.
Worse still is Xmas holidays are here and the shop I got it done at will be closed till the new year. Worse still I start my drive from Melbourne to Noosa on the 28th. Now I'm worried the rest of the mounting points might fail with the extra stress of missing the middle mount.
With regards to my first issue, I have spoken to Mark from Taipan and was quite pleased with what he had to say and was told to send him photos and explanation via text , after that call me back after hours and we spoke at length for a hour, and was sort of happy. He did try to blame the installers that the exhaust shouldn't be touching anywhere and the exhaust wasn't fitted or aligned properly.
Now I just SMSed Taipan again to see what they have to say now.

What if your flexed up and the exhaust is permanently on the rubber and it catches fire.... id be getting them to make you a new one that’s not going to rub or put a bent in to go around that spot

Dominator
23rd December 2012, 05:12 PM
That is pretty dodgy. I would expect a expensive exhaust system like that would not rub anywhere. Rubber on the arms does not look right to me.

In a more helpful note, I live in Noosa and would be happy to weld up that broken mount when you get up here.

This is the message I sent to Taipan.

"Sorry for bothering you on Sunday but I've had some more rattling over the past week and I thought maybe the rubber had moved to rub again or the rear rubber mount was dislodged again but no, this is what I found. A cracked middle exhaust mounting bracket. Is this common. Here is a pic. 23590Once again sorry but I kept your number and thought I would let you know.

Second. I know I won't get it fixed before we leave to Qld, but my concerns are, will every other bracket hold up driving from Melbourne to Noosa. Any suggestion would be great.
I will also try calling OnTrack4x4 in Kealba but would assume closed for silly season."

This is the response I received.

"Should be ok for trip up but if you can find a exhaust shop to weld it up would be better.
Kerry would like to have a look at what has caused crack if you can call in."

I did tell him in earlier conversations that I will pop in when I'm up there for them to look at.

The flexi joint is right next to, what I believe to be the transfer case. And this is where it is cracking before the flexi joint.
When I grab the exhaust from then gone to the flexi, there is very little movement. From the flexi to the rear, plenty of rubber mount for plenty of movement.

obviously a weak spot, maybe try putting a sizable rubber bush in between the solid mounts(where the bolt goes through) to allow a little bit of movement there after you get it fixed of course.

OK, stopped in Burleigh Heads this morning at Taipan exhausts.
They fixed the cracked exhaust bracket but not a new exhaust.
3dogs was right in saying it wasn't fitted correctly and misaligned. It was miss aligned on that bracket causing tension and stress when the bolt was tightened on the bracket.
Still happy it's all fixed now, they removed that section and re aligned the pipe into its correct position and retightened. They also lifted the rear section of the exhaust further up towards the body to get more clearance.
They noticed the rubber and the dents and marks in the exhaust and found that my springs/shocks are already sagging and bump stops working hard also.
Especially when the boat is hooked up.
I had noticed it was quite bouncy but didn't think it would be spring/shocks already.
When My Missus first took it back to the fitter, he also told her I need new springs/shocks but I just thought he trying to sell me a lift kit.
So I guess need to see Nissan and see what they have to say about it. More bull dust I reckon.

Yes it's all still standard and stock. So gives me good excuse to spend mo'money.
Suspension upgrade, lift and airbags was always on the cards but didn't think it would be this early. Also have a mate that want to sell his M/T MTZ tyres about 5 months old maybe 80% tread left. But hasn't told me price. I think he won't tell me, as he'll want to flog them off at a premium price and not mates rates.
