I will soon be running a 3" lift on my 98 GU, and will possibly run 35" tyres on it only because i dont want to have to change from 33" -35" every time I go out for the weekend... but my only concern is will it cause any long term damage or extra ware and Tare on my gearbox or diff etc?

They will suck a little power out of the car but no real damage mate.

Highly recommend fitting Drop Boxes as part of your 3" lift over any other form of Caster Correction. Correction Bushes are Junk. Drop Boxes rock!

Also get those spacers to move front axle forward, you may have rubbing issues on full flex.

If you fit Drop Boxes the spacing will be built into the Drop Boxes and will not be required ;)

Is their a particular brand or type of drop boxes I should look for? Or are they all the same for the 3" lift

Personally i would use the no mod drop boxes they state what lift they suit 3-5 inch 6-7 usually.
Heres a few examples http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=drop+box+patrol&_sacat=See-All-Categories

THe Superiors need to notch out the chassis mount to fit up and i would steer away from them on that basis. (I have them fitted to my GQ)

I have fitted THESE (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NISSAN-PATROL-GQ-GU-FORD-MAVERICK-DROP-BOXES-3-6-INCH-/221085591219?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3379ba66b3) to my GUIV and have been very very happy with them. Simple to fit No CUTTING. go for it.
