Want vehicle for camping & exploring this fantastic landscape keen sporting shooter and motorbike rider no carvan towing just 4wd camper have 2 billy lids and like being independent , and realiable
Have read so much on patrols and motors that am now just overwhelmed buy all the info this is a new chapter in my life so to all you patrol gurus any help would be great.

Can't beat a patrol for touring, have you looked at the 4.2 telstra utes. buy 2nd hand throw $20k at it and you'll have change plus one hell of a Patrol. CR motors are fine

If yer set on a wagon look for a td42t 2006 was the last of them otherwise yeah a 3ltr 06 onwards and mod it up. i think brand new 2012 are around $50k so not much leftover for mods.

2000-2003 3ltrs were known to have issues...............basically they blow up. However mods can be done to prevent this from happening. The most sought after are the 4.2 turbo diesel, but for these you can still easily pay well into the 40k's

True that ! having a look at car sales could not believe prices of older 4.2 and I find it hard to justify for such higher ks.Is it all about torque ? You say 2006 onwards are these all ok or particualr years
better.Having read some years have smaller lsd.Has there been major mechanical changes during 2006 2012.
taking all your info on board

As far as i know the only ones with smaller g/box and tnsfr case were earlier 2.8's. The td42t bacically is indestructible when serviced regularly. Mine and many otherdiesel 4.2 has done well in excess of 500,000 and still (touch wood) going strong. I dont think you'll see any 3ltrs getting that many k's. My folks just sold 06 GU6 for mid 40's. 04 onwards in the 3.0ltr are fine but should still have boos and exhaust temp gauges fitted so you know whats going on there, also i believe a catch can. Other members need to clkarify this for ya as ive got td42.

beware ex mines vehicles - they corrode corrode corrode. Even the surface operated ones I would probably not consider. And yes, that population includes wagons.

Buy your self a trusty old GQ and pocket the $40k for some mode and whatever else takes your fancy lol........... you should be used to a slightly less comfortable ride

Get a wagon, chop it into a dualcab to keep your re sale value. Then you have great tourer, camping rig and motor bike carrier, landscape supply carrier . great all rounder IMO

Thanks to all for input .After lengthy discussions with cook, asks me where is the faith in brand name and acused of being petrol head. Funny the defender was much loved but now tells me its time to step out of cave .

Funny that, I remember a Lass doing similar , asking us for pro's and con's to give Hubby on not buying another defender.
"Welcome to the bright side" lol

Oh come all ye faithful, you have ambarked on a new method of 4x4 transportation, by buying a Nissan, you have joined the ranks of the majority.
The Nissan Patrol is a far cry from any landrover, trust me.
Welcome to the fold, my Son, lol

My advice for what it's worth, stay well clear of any ZD30 direct injection.
Go for a 4.2 or a CRD, or even a petrol, go for a manual with all the fruit!!
Cheers, the ferret.

Seriously, look at ex Telstra vehicle as they have all the extras already on them so you save about 10K for a start and are well serviced.
