after a decade of toyotas i've changed camps and loving it.
picked up a 90 td42 maverick dead original right down to the 2 peice radio/deck. 300,000km rust free but a dents in the doors.
after 3 days of ownership ive changed out the original sterio with a nice kenwood unit. bin'd the original steering wheel for a more comfortable saas unit. ordered a comp style bar to replace the bent aluminimum one on it now. ordering a new 3" flexy kit from SS tomorrow. and its booked in next week for a new 3" manderal bent exhaust. that'll probably the end of the cash from the sale of my hilux. so the new boot will have to wait a few weeks.

Tap, Tap.......Who's there?

phone pics. hiding the dents. hahaha its not to bad passanger sides the worst but at stage im not overly conserned about the body till everything else is sorted. overall im over the moon with it. drives really well have a small issue with the clutch losing pressure. i think a seal has gone in the master cyl. ill remove it tomorrow and see if these any oil in the booster. no leaks in the lines anywhere.
should start taking shape pretty quickly. cant wait to hit some tracks in it.

The slave cylinder could quite possibly be the culprit there. Theyre a real $#@&*% to bleed when replaced;-)

thanks growler. ill get it checked out to. getting slight lose of fluid thats why im thinking master cyl leaking into the booster. its not to bad around town but drive a few minutes out of town without changing gears you need to pump up the pedal to down change. i have a look tomorrow and see what i can come up with.

Is it turbo? You mention getting a 3" exhaust.

dan dog
26th July 2012, 06:17 PM
not turbo'd yet....... but will be. (hoping tax mans nice this year) exhaust needs replacing so going 3". my exhaust guy can then modify to suit the dump pipe once turbo'd

dan dog
26th July 2012, 06:24 PM
got a price on sum tyres today. maxxis bighorns 33 x 12.5 $275, 35x 12.5 $335 and he'll give me $75 a tyre trade on my 31" yoky AT,s so that will bring costs down a bit so next pay new boots. (sucks being paid monthly)

nissannewby
26th July 2012, 07:05 PM
3" is too big for a NA motor I would hold out til you get the turbo or atleast until you see if the tax man is gonna be nice to you.

dan dog
26th July 2012, 07:19 PM
thanks for the advise. ill hold off then for a while. is a 2.5" exh to small for a turbo'd engine. i'll only be running 10-12 psi once turbo'd?

nissannewby
26th July 2012, 11:05 PM
Its not to small but a 3" is recommendable it allows it to breathe easier and will see a slight decrease in pyro temps, which is always a good thing.

dan dog
26th July 2012, 11:54 PM
thanks again i'll hold of for awhile till im ready to turbo it. and just patch this exhaust up to get me by.

got some cheap vt calias seats for the mav today. faily straight forward to fit to the original rails but im not happy with the location. its about 40mm off center with the steering wheel so you feel like your sitting on the door and at a angle, the lumber support knob is hard up against the pillar also. im gunna make up some some spacers tomorrow to mover the seat across 40mm. it will raise the seating postion slightly but that i can live with.

same old story with motor cars. fix on thing and something else stuffs up....lol. finally got around to fixing up the clutch hydralics. new master cyl, slave cyl and fitted a new hydralic line as the old was looking a little sad.
went for a drive to maccas last night and i now dont have dash lights or tail lights fitted new fuse and popped it straight away. should be fun tracking the short down....not.
but on happier note. new boots fitted today. 33x12.5 bighorns. also removed the old broken fibreglass flares and fitted some bunnings flares. (not everyones cup of tea but cheap and do the job).
even had time to do a quick run up along the railway line near home. nothin to hard but still enjoyable.
pics to follow shortly.

I'd start at the trailer plug wiring if it has one.

or any added aftermarket lights or wiring.

dan dog
8th August 2012, 06:44 PM
i had a quick look at trailer plug and removed tail lights earlier to have a look its pretty wild in there. there wired the trailer plug off the drivers side tail light very ruff. out of time to fix wiring now as im heading back to work at 2.30 in morning. i sort it once i get back home.

2nd pic. the damage. also got a bit in the passanger front door
3rd pic. had to break in the new shoes. lookin rather dirty after a big bog hole.

Not to much to update at the moment. still waiting on my suspension (nealy 5 weeks now) been a delay in the shocks. hopefully i dont have to wait to much longer starting to get a little impatiant.
Went for a bit of a wheel around some forestry in Orange last week. first time ive really put it to the test since ive had it. gotta say bloody hell im impressed. with shagged 2" sus lift and some tyres beening the only real mods it just crawled through anything i pointed it at. no pics though sorry fellas. Managed to put another dent in the rear quater to when i slipped off a bank into a 3 foot rut. had about 1 1/2" gap inbetween the back door and a rather large tree root. thankfully it didnt make contact or damage would of been a lot worse.
got a few days off at the moment so doing complete fluid change tomorrow, ill wire up some new speakers and amp and i also bought one of those 3 plug lighter sockets with a usb im going to try and fit it into the centre console. that should keep me busy till my suspension turns up.

Good news and bad news for me. good news suspension turned up today. YAY. bad news I have fitted the rear coils (all good). Fitted drivers side shock ( all good) went to fit passanger shock and the top mount is bent and the thread is striped ( very bad ). This is where you guys come into play. anyone struck this before and how did you fix it?. My thoughts cut old mount of and weld on New one. any other ideas that maybe a bit easier.

dan dog
10th September 2012, 12:28 AM
well i fixed my little problem with the shock mount. (big thanks to the great guys on here for pointing me in the right direction). had very limited time to finish it off but the rear ends all done, springs, shocks, brake line. sway bar extension pin and brake proposoning bracket. also noticed a broken and a almost broken exhaust mounts. so removed them and welded up. good as new now. tomorrow the diarys empty so attacking the front.
stay tuned for some pics.

not to much to update as i been away at work. But tomorrow the sterio's getting a db upgrade. picked up a 600w sony 4 channel amp for the speakers. a Schneider 800w 2 channel amp to run a sony 12" sub.
was planning on removing the rear seats and making a rear draw unit with a fridge slide out the rear passanger door. but thats now not happening as i have just found out the wifes preggers with our first bub. (yes yes im very excited).
