Hi all
My 98 Y61 has a 6 CD changer in the back. As I don't have any CDs anymore, does anyone know if there is such a thing as a media player that can replace it? I don't really want to change the whole system, but thought it would be nice if there was such a thing that I can just plug in?
Cheers

Nick

what are you looking at changing? the head unit or the stacker ? if your looking at a head unit that plays video to play from the stacker theres a prity good chance the stacker wont play dvds only cds and if your replaceing the stacker .. you will have to replace the head unit also as no screen . not likeing your chances maybe just get one unit that takes dvds/cds and plays on screen and ditch the stock unit

Totally agree with Mega, plenty of affordable double din replacement head units with GPS,DVD,USB,SD.AM/FM even tv. My 4gb sd card has over 40 hours and 1000 songs on it. Plus most accept reverse camera as well

Hi Nick,

What do you mean you don't have any CD's anymore? what media do you want 2 play?

Not sure what inputs if any are on your Head Unit, If you don't have any inputs then I believe you will have 2 change the whole system.

And as already said, plenty of new double dins systems that do just about everything

I need to invest in one of these soon. The old 1990 cassette tape in the GQ just isnt cutting the mustard anymore...LMAO

Your high pitched, bassless cassette thingamabob could use a whole system replacement, head unit, speakers, the lot. Then again you may want to find your water leak problem first

Ah my dash is split into two and I'm going to fit a CB radio in the top slop so can't fit a double din jobby. Was wondering if the CD changer could be changed for an MP3 player or hard drive like this: http://audiovox.diceelectronics.com/media-bridge-info-avx and still utilise the head unit, but think I may have to change that too.

Oh you can most certainly modify that dash to take a double din...... there's a member on here fromNorway (I think) that did it, I'll see if I can find the thread when i get on my lappy

personally id cut the centre out and make it a double din you will just loose the storage slot above the stereo or look for something like these maybe

http://www.gasgoo.com/showroom/hoatoa_tl/auto-products/1081887.html

there are a few on the market they would be a little more fragile then the solid screens double din(less moveing parts) but may be what your after.

Cheers Guys, that is certainly an option, but I wanted to install a CB radio in the top slot so the idea was to keep the head unit and just replace the multi CD with a media player or something

There a few different options on sizes of UHFs mate....... Not sure what makes you have over there but take a look at the GME and Uniden websites and you'll see what I mean..... So you won't necessarily need to mount in the dash.... Could go under your seat, behind the dash, or get a roof console to mount it in.

If you check out pic in my post you'll notice UHF hand piece only, the main box is small and mounted under the dash. All controls are on the hand mike, space saving.
It's an Icom-440

X2.. Dash Mounted UHF just takes up space that you can use for other things. UHFs are small and efficient or the Icom 440 is a hand piece driven unit. Great Radio and Military Spec.

Yeah, I'd love one of those, but I already have a single DIN CB radio so silly not to use it. I think I may get one of these: http://diceelectronics.com/fmrds-usb-pro

do you know someone with one of them set up ? would be interesting to see in action
but you will still need to replace your head unit if you want video or do you just want it for music storage?

If your not worried about having a large display, I remember Clarion did a solid state head unit... No CDs no tape, just load up all your tunes onto a thumb drive, sd card and transfer to the head unit. Also plays direct from the cards, or also plug in your iPod or mp3 player and away you go

Finally got round to fitting the CB....

I would have preferred to have the stereo at the top, but i couldn't get the sodding screws out of the bracket!

Still haven't added the media player yet though...

is that a tweeter mounted to the left on the dash? would be safer and more stable flat mounted

Nope, its a mini speaker for the CB radio and its pretty secure ;-)
