Evening all,

Tax time is hear, and so with permission from the wife I will be getting some new bits for my GU II.
I am looking at getting a redback 3" exhaust system and hopefully a tunit chip at the same time.

The fact that I am a mechanical moron means my knowledge in such things is extremely limited, and therefore I look to those who will give me an honest opinon (YOU) :D

I have been quoted from Fast Fit Exhaust (Townsville) the following:
3" exhaust for a 3.0L TD 2001 GU II Patrol: $1375 fitted
Tunit Diesel chip: $1280 fitted
Total: $2655.00

Is this a resonable price??
Can I get the exhaust now & the chip later and not have issues inbetween??
Has anyone dealt with Fast Fit Exhaust prior, When I spoke to them, they seemed very helpful & friendly.

For me, this is a major upgrade to my fourby, and the fact it is a lil old I want to ensure that it will last for many years to come.

Also, I want to get a egt & boost gauge, and as I said earlier, I am a mechanical moron, and know less than nothing in regards to brand/ install etc. I have been looking on eBay and found the folowing:

Pillar pod:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360472899750?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Gauges:
Dual battery setup: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360473700957?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

EGT & Boost setup: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/230818079581?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

If anyone can offer advise and maybe something else that is recommended and reliable, that would be greatly apprieciated. Thankyou for taking the time to read my post & look forward to reading the replies.

Adam

Try these guys for the exhaust mate. http://www.scottsrods.com.au/

Even delivery down to Melbourne worked out under half of the price given above. Very easy DIY installation too if you want to give it a crack yourself.

Hey mate i was quoted about the same price last week from them here in townsville too. He's seems alright. Had some work done by him on my last car( 02 clubsport V8). Im also not sure on tjm price, its a fair whack but for 35% more power and apparently better fuel economy who knows.

Gauges look OK and are very easy to install. very basic instructions.
Exhaust, as mentioned in a few posts recently I went to Scottsrods too. Great product and very easy to install. Only need 3 sockets and 3 wrenches. (12,14,17mm)

It will breathe free, and power wil go from 118kw to around 140 kw I think. Extra power, extra fuel but driven right your fuel figures should improve

Thanks fella's,

I have had a look at Scottsrods, and will give them a call tomorrow. If I can save a couple a hundred $$, I can put that toward the gauges and pod. HHhhmmm, I think it is about time I learn-ed myself on my Patrol and try a self install when I have all the items together. I will keep you posted on my progress, and will show pics of any injuries I aquire during the process.

Fingers crossed

Does anyone know if there is a neat way of mounting them autron boost/egt gauges on the far right or the dash without the need for a pillar pod??

Ring and say you want 2 might discount it a bit more for you, you can get a twin guage holder from 4x4 concepts thats sits behind the steering wheel, might be what your after

Mate i can’t help you about the exhaust in Townsville but regarding the pods
I’ve mounted my gauges on the steering column behind the wheel and it’s not blocking out anything (warning lights or speeds my rig will reach realistically)and a 3rd gauge on the roof as you can see in the pics also try looking at the bainteh volt/volt metre its back illuminated and will be more accurate then the Autron one and you and will also fit in a pod mount also if you wish but you can see how I’ve mounted it and yes the window demister still works. From memory it was 20$ cheaper then the autron one shown on your post and i got it at battery world

Yep i was going to put a link to that up earlier but got called away from the computer. If you dont want a pillar pod then they are a great alternative, will mount up very simply and are Cheap as Chips and programable. They would sit in your current instrument cluster across the bottom and not get in the way and be seen through the steering wheel like all the other gauges. Winner

I bought my 3" mandrel bent through www.bestmufflers website based in Sydney. Cost me less than $600 delivered to my work address near Galwer.
I had to drill one hole in one mount as it was 1cm out, and put a 5mm spacer at the rear so it wouldn't rub against the tow bar. Other than that it went straight in, no dramas.
Try the website and ring a Fellow called Chris. He helped me a great deal and chatted for an hour or so.
I spoke to Hi-Tech Diesel in Adelaide who do a lot of work with Patrols here, and they reccomended a chip, but cannot remember the brand.
If you are a mechanical numpty, speak to a mechanic about your plans first and you may save time and money

I have the Scotts rod exhaust and are very happy with it, 3"all the way and very easy to fit. As for the pillar pod best money I spent. Had gauges just mounted in the old truck and it looked untidy, the pillar pod is easy to install and looks great. Gauges are up to you. I got mine from the USA, Pro Comp Ultra Lite Boost 0-35psi and Ultra Lite Pyro 0-900deg c EGT. I can't remember the exact price but it was alot cheaper than I could get over in Aust.
