Hi All. . . . .
Was doing some work to the "Old Girl" today (fitting VDO EGT thermocouple) and have realised my first aid kit is not up to scratch. After using ALL the band aids and betadine solution, then the eyewash and the panadol, I need a new one! What a PIA removing that damn heat shield is, I have more cuts and bruises from that than any other job I have carried out on ANYTHING mechanical. On a happy note though, the gauge works a treat and there are no exhaust leaks :clapping:

Too right about a good first aid kit, ever since we started camping ( my wife never camps) my first aid box is now a first aid bag, I could almost perform surgery with the amount of sh*t I have in the bag now, stuff for minor cuts, major cuts, burns, breaks, and have used nearly everything in the bag , of course I always replace things when used.
Best thing I have inside my truck, well second via the icy cold fridge is first, well third best, first the fridge, second is the contents of the fridge then the first aid bag.

a lot of you tube of Yanks working on cars includes close fitting gloves.

I guess they work with cold stuff too, sometimes.

Years ago a mechanic mate of mine was removing a big piston from an auto box. He had callouses on callouses. He grabbed the piston with his thumb on the edge, pulled and twisted at the same time. I was about 4 metres away, and could hear that sharp edge cut into the ball of his thumb.

Very spectacular, and should have been stitched, but of course it wasn't

gloves are worth a look, I guess, they are cheap enough. But only if one is going to wear them :-)

I think they use those gloves because of all the chemicals around today, 2 friends have hands that are peeling and red from years in the trade. Can't beat a good first aid kit
plenty of bandaids in mine, as cuts seems to be main injury around camp

Yeap, can't beat a good first aid kit. Just realized I need to buy a new one, sold the other car and left it between the back seat and gas tank. Bonus for the new owner (if he finds it).

If you need an Epi pen for bee stings etc DON'T buy it from chemist. Get a script from your doctor only $5 compared to $100. especially around summer time. Always keep one in my kit

A pair of tweezers in the 1st aid kit is a good thing too. Makes less mess getting the splinters out than the pocket knife and is bloody handy for getting to, and picking up, small fiddley things that you cant get to with fat man fingers (especially ones with gloves on ;)

i agree 100% and hope that no one has to use it for anything major, but as you said comforting to know it's there!

My missus bought me a new St Johns kit (the full sized red bag one) for my birthday - obviously knows I'm a bleeder!! lol

Invaluable to have in the truck, and as per the head trauma patient we had to rescue at Springs 4x4 Park (after he was partly crushed by a falling tree), a good medical kit is a must have. The knowledge to use it is even more of a must ... if you haven't done one, the St Johns course is well worthwhile attending ...

I bought a cheap flouro vest with glow stuff on it from Red Dot, K Mart or somewhere. It just stays in my truck all wrapped up, nice and clean.

Very handy, just in case. Especially at night.

When I did my patrol medic course (a long time ago now) we were taught that a good first aid kit is good but to look at everything else that we had with us in our packs or vehicles as an extension of it. The Key though in my mind is knowledge there is no point in having the worlds best FA kit if you dont know what to do.
On gloves (you guys in Aussie will love this) in winter where I am we wear polypro gloves in the mornings and if dosn't warm up all day as metal gets to cold to handle without pain and loss of skin on really cold ones espeacilly in the hills

The one thing to remember with a good first aid kit is to keep a check on the consumable items such as ointments, disinfectants, eye washes etc as they do have an expiry date. Check your kit regularly and replace items that may be near or past their use by date.

Because sure as, the day you need it, the stuff won't be any good to you.
