Heard on the radio this morning that the re-enactment kicked off this morning.

The two adult children who made the crossing with their parents, in a Nissan, 50 yrs ago are going again. Well, the radio did not reveal they were in a Nissan then, nor what they are driving this time. I know they were in a G60 because of earlier info on this forum. Thanks!

1100+- sand dunes apparently. 11 hard days the first time. 5 or so easy days this time around.

Assume they'd be in one of the Simpson edition Patrols?

Griselda Sprigg wrote a book about their experiences crossing the Simpson call "Dune is a four lettered word".

If you havn't read it and you like stories about the bush this is a great read.

I ran into the event organizers on our way home on Friday. They were in cymbal wrapped patrols towing trailers full of merchandise for sale at Birdsville.

Only 8 cars are doing the crossing and everyone else is meeting at Birdsville for the party, Pat Callenin is leadin the crossing in his Patrol.

The Birdsville track has just been gradered (I passed the graders) and is a super hwy.

The French Line has had soooo much traffic that they were crossing it in Kombi Vans. High range, fast driving. Take the Subaru Outback!!

We need to have a 25 year anniversary of the famous AB Simpson Crossing...lol

Back in the 80's this poor kid was shoved in the back of an old Hilux with those crappy vinyl seats that your legs stick to and his father had the drivers seat all the way back leaving his knees crunched up to his face.

Followed by him wanting to drive 10-16 hours every day to make "good timing"...LMAO....Painful memories.
