Hi Guys
Well i have had my GU for 5 weeks, mind you it has traveled 7000km in that time.
Last week or so the car has developed a loud clunk when you turn the steering from full lock to full lock. It appears to be coming from the LH side.
Basically, if you move the steering wheel from LH full lock to RH full lock and back again, at about 5/6 of rack travel back to the LH side, it clunks loudly, like a tie rod or ball joint being loose, but i have not been able to find anything.
The issue i have is that the car has 265/70/17 tires fitted in lure of the stock ones, which was actually approved by nissan Mt Isa where i got the car. Now back home, i have a funny feeling that my local dealer will tell me it the tires and flog it off on my cost.
I have spent 4 hours searching what it could be on the forum but found nothing....
Can i have some help please as to what it might be and what to check.
Ta

Hi Mate
The noise appears to be coming from the LH and only developed in the last two weeks at about 5000Km or so. I'll go over every nut and bolt on the weekend and see.
Keep them coming

checked the nuts, that was my first though too. You see my Dealer and i have a VERY checkered history, they don't like me due to being and engineer and knowing more then the mug off the street, they don;t like being told so to speak.
LOL.

have you checked there is a stop bolt on the ball joint housing to stop oversteering and things rubbing

Yeah there's a bolt but no plastic cover on it, but the noise occurs before the stop bolt hits the housing. hopefully i can find something out over the weekend

wogs, im running 285/75/16 on mine with no problems and came from nissan with 275/65/17 on it. you can feel free to drop by over the weekend and compare the your patrol with mine to make sure your not missing a stop or anything if you like.
have you taken off the front mud ? (the inside left mudflap on full lock is where mine knocked when i put the new tyres on)

Hi Offroadmania.
Its definitely not the tyres as such, they are not hitting at all, it's not the mud flaps either, the knock appears at about 3/4 full lock so a bit strange, got it booked in on monday to have a look anyhow, as long as the dealer plays ball.

I thinks i found it, the only bolt under the car that had any movement at all was the Panhart bolt on the body side. I tightenedit up about 1/2 turn and now there has bee no more noise. Fingers crossed this was it.

Good luck with that
I chipped mine for a while found a little bit more power but it really wasnt worth it
Dont change your tyres from 265 i went to 285 and just about killed it.
I think the only way i will ever go up a size again is if i change the diff ratios.
Anyway we will have to catch up some time and do that track you have on youtube

Not chipping at the moment, but get rid of the stock exhaust and fix up the intake, perhaps an extra pound or two of boost, anything to get her to actully move.
I have 32" on her now from the Paj and that is big enough.
In regards to the trip, sure can i need to get out there now some more and have fun. Still going though that shes too new stage. LOL.

Your tyres are 31.5s, so hook it back and tell them ta fix it end of story.
The clunk is nothing to do with the tyres, the clunk is a mechanical problem.
The clunk is Nissans problem.

You put up a question asking for advice, I answered it, the calculation I gave was approximate, within 2 mm.
I don't appreciate your comment.
Don't ask me again for anything.

Ferret, not trying to start a turf war. The reason i posted about the tire size, is that my dealer and i have some particular issues ( the stated tyre size came direct form them ) particular when it comes to warranty claims if there is any modifications. I did not know that a little bit of humor on this forum would be taken out of context. I will seek to minimise your input in future conversation.
