LMAO yup good shot indeed but in all seriousness i was recovering a young bloke out in the drop zone in west sydney when the so called recovery piont he had sheared of and the remains of the recovery hitch and the d shackle hit the spare wheel on the paj that hard that it wrote of the steel rim. had the spare not been mounted it would have come through the back window of the paj in line with the back of my head rest hate to think what would have happened then

Nothing good would have happened, that's for sure.

I think its not just the towing/snatching point.but the comdition of the towing/snatching gear.....
Mate and i were pulling sapplings out with a heavy duty chain and a 4by
The chain broke a link and one half went threw the rear of the car, smashed the rear window and done some damage to the car
The other half of the chain flicked way past said sappling, so anyone nearby could have been hit
Since that incident, ive thrown out any old chain ,and bought a new snatch strap
5 mins for safety, dead along time

yup thats about what could have happened to me,, the same thing did happen in the NT a few years ago now where the strap threaded itself throygh the head rest and the through the head of the driver.

Just quick up date on what I've been able to do, I've been in touch with with Sam from ARB head office, happy to say the warning is now on their straps and hopefully Sam will be putting a saftey link on the towball thread,
Also contacted a few clubs that will be in touch with 4WD Vic to see if they will put a warning on the bottom of every page of the club mag and Track Watch. Still need to contact TJM and Op Loc head office about labelling as well as 4x4 aust mag. Best thing anyone can do is attend a recovery or driver training course to rid yourself of bad habits. A lot of newbies to 4x4ing think they know it all and this can be dangerous if not life threatening, and lets not kid ourselves people die and continue to do so. More updates when I get a few replys.
