I cannot speak from experience but I have enquired and found TJM to be slightly in front. I don't know my 2cents anyway.

IMO I'd go the Pro-Lokka, no oil lines to smell cabin up. Had 2 on last truck faultless, most comp trucks swapped to the pro-lokka down here, Must be a reason why

Go the Elocker by far the best locker there is!!! No airlines No oil leakages No need to carry a tinny useless compressor and best of all its a little cheaper!!!! I have had Air lockers for years and will never go back to them!!

You'll find you won't get much change from $1500 to have any air lokka fitted probably cheaper for the rear, I was quoted $1800 for an electric lokka fitted. I'm biased as I prefer TJM gear

Sure do and love them.. I cant recall the exacted cost but it was a little cheaper than ARB air and a hell of a lot more reliable!!! They are made by Eaton Who have been in the Diff locker game a very long time..

For me its a no brainier.. If you go to opposite lock slacks creek they will look after you I'm sure :-)) Don't be worried about the hype from the ARB camp you WILL not be disappointed in the Elocker!!

Eaton are a top name brand, deal with them a lot through work (not their automotive stuff) and have never had a single fail with any of their products. Bloke I know has an Eaton elocker and he is always raving about it and hangs shit on anybody with an air locker.

Put an e-locker in the front of our ute, at this point in time I can only say it works.

Only had a couple of opportunities to use it so reliability is not something I can comment on.

I like the simplicity of not having to run another compressor, air leads can be ripped out of diff, so can cables so that is a non argument there.

Reliability should be better that the air systems, Eaton are well credentialed in transmission products as are Harrop Engineering who look after the Australian specific products.

Had twin air lockers in our last 4B, not again. ARB's hype did not match the performance. Didn't break them just seals and causing leaks.

Mate has an auto in the front of his 4B and steered me away from getting one, his reason was at speed in high 4 on loose outback roads the steering was compromised.
Needed throttle to get around sweeping bends. A bit un-nerving with a fully loaded 4B with the family on board as well.
He wanted to roll out of the throttle but steering got real heavy and was trying to go straight ahead.
Plus the power steering pump must of been getting a work out.
This bloke is a very experienced driver on and off road so I listened to him.

The rear autos are good but can not be dis-engaged which at time will push the 4B straight ahead when you want to turn.

My choice is the e-lock but its up to you of course

Good luck

I agree with every thing you said But I have torn off a air line one time and its a bitch to dodgy it up in the bush as most tings I tried would not hold up to the PSI required to activate the locker. Also if you were to brake a line half way you can't just twist them back together like 12 volt wire...

Just another few great point that the Elocker's have..

Edit: or loose out back road if in 4wd at speed where this is an issue ya probably driving too fast for the conditions

the obvious advantage with a air locker is the diff centre, doesnt use the factory centre like the rest is far stronger than any other locking diff on the market hence why they are a more expensive, yup is a pain when ya do a air line, just carry a spare encase...my two cents :)

have a factory rear locker as well, just sick of not been able to have the locker out whilst driving along a loose\slippery road, sort of mentioned above.

I am also soon to be in the market for a front locker for the gq. Not all that interested in air so its either elocker or lokka.
Watching this thread with interest.

I am considering the lokka for the front i figure if i am going to be driving on slippery roads at speed i'll just take it out of 4wd.

Exactly
Also maybe cause I'm unco I find it a PITA flicking on n off an air locker had a twin air locked lolux commy v6 no power steering and it was a pig of a thing having to turn the locker off to turn a corner now I'm not a lil fella but eff me it was a @&$* to steer. With the auto back off the power a poofteenth of an inch and we're back in control;-)

Guys I wasn't there so have no idea of the conditions, if he felt H4 was better than H2 thats good enough for me.

At speed doesn't mean excessive, just not slow like in L4. Might have been fast enough to get on top of corrogations.

From what I remember it was corrogated slippry gravel and 4WD felt more secure, he was driving, his choice.

It was his first time in the outback with the front locka fitted.

Once he figured out what to do he said it was OK but was unerving.

Drove on a snow covered tarsealed road years ago, the back was sliding around all over the place. Put it in 4H and it was as if the snow wasnt there.

So for me when the road gets a bit slippery, get the front end to help. If it doesnt help dis-engage it.

Cheers Macca

From what i was reading tjm are preferred as the arb had been known to suffer from seal and side gear failures.

Auto lockers in the front diff can be bad news for steering in the sand.

i would go tjm or e-locker the elocker when i was quoted was more expensive than the purchase of the air lockers (arb/tjm) but the fitting was alot more for the air lockers, the e- locker i would have prob fitted myself with a few mates.

I had an arb air in my old vitara which was used nearly every weekend n never had any issues with seals or side gear failures n I was always up n down rocky creekbeds to all out hillclimbs but I supose it only weighed 1100kgs so only a featherweight compared to Gq I now in but I am still going to get front ARB again when the pocket gets a bit fuller n hopefully before my cape trip in sept

We had a day out yesterday with the club, it was rated medium to hard, what that means to us is lockers are more than likely needed, as are winches, straps and expect some damage.
If it was wet it would have been extreme or impossible LOL
Out of 14 vehicles we had a much modded Zook, 200, 100 & 60 series cruisers and the rest were patrols, the IFS 100 cruiser went home, too tough???.... a GQ Patrol and the 60 series cruiser busted a CV, the Zook a trailing arm and another GQ did an axel or diff. Was not a trip for the faint hearted!!!!

I am real pleased to say my Patrol did every track un-assisted, some road building to get the pod between trees on one track was the most help I had. Of course there were plenty of spotters to put the tyres on the right bits.

The E-locker was fantastic and did exactly what it is designed to do, and I did put it to the sword on more than a few occasions. It stood up to the task with out fault.

So my choice has well and truly been vindicated, and feel confident to recommend to others.

Just a quick answer on this one.

Because it is safer and the vehicle is controlled better when you are in 4wd on dirt roads.

Try it and you will see how much better the vehicle feels.

Northside ARB quite regularly does the air lockers they are at nudgee. I think there is a TJM shop at maroochydore maybe around sugar rd I think it is.

ARB and TJM are 50m apart on Sugar Road in Maroochydore. Personally have had issues with some of the work from the ARB store but that could just be bad luck on my part.

I am looking at a locker for the front of my GQ and will probably go for a 'E-Locker' since I have head differing reports about the 2 air locker brands but have heard nothing bad about the 'E-Locker'.

I got front and rear air lockers from arb coopersplains. Not cheap but happy so far and I ve had them for 9 months now no problems at all, I personally would steer clear of auto lockers if a daily driver but I dont think you would be dissapionted with whatever you get. they totally transform the performance of your car! You'll love it!
