Well what started as an "easyjob" ended in pain. Tensioner was flogged out so thought to replace rather than repair bushings as noted elsewhere on this site. Got new one genuine Nissan for $146...

Started by removing fan shroud...in 2 pieces. After repairing that with some stainless and rivets its now easier to remove for next time.
Then found the idler pulley a bit rough so off to the bearing shop and $30 later and with the aid of vise and hammer..good as gold.
P/N for bearing is 5203-2RS (17X40X17.5) original one was 15mm not 17.5 but was out of stock and the 17.5 is the depth so didn't matter just got a double row of balls, better bearing for $5 more.
Bolting back together was quick with the aid of a large tyrap to hold the compressed tensioner compressed.
pic shows new and old flogged bushes in tensioner and my 2 piece shroud
All in all better than the $800 Nissan wanted to buy the part not to mention install,plus now I've got some lovely scratches on my hands and a blood blistered fingernail. Sweet!!

I have a 2002 still original tentioner in use today. Nearly 180,000 k on clock with little or no problem in ths department. Changed alternaror and belts once. Think I'm gunna be up for a lot of cash when these fail me.

I may be up for this as my belt snapped today leaving me out high and dry and on the side of the road. Who wants to fix it for me

I changed my pully and belt today my tensioner is fine. We removed the pully and all the bearings fell out replaced new pully and belt 20 mins later on the road now with my spare wheel I'll replace the bearings so I have a touring spare!
$60 for new pully
$ 70 for new belt
