View Full Version : Engine stall

I was driving along (GU8 CRD 3lt TD) stereo blasting, not sure of speed, maybe 80kph but I remember seeing 5500 rpm ( maybe over ) and realized I was in second gear (in an auto), as soon as I put it into drive it stalled. Not sure if coincidence on stalling when I click drive or stalled at the same time coincidently, keep rolling put it in neutral and started the car and kept going.
Can anyone shed some light as to why it stalled. Does it have a over rev sensor, is it a safeguard for engine, I got no ideas at all.
Any light on the subject would be appreciated.
OR at least any possibilities.

Mick mate take ten minutes and relax get your book out of the glove box and have a read
of the different sections look up the auto and 4x4 section to get a better understanding of how
your rig works

cheers roofy

If you saw 5500 rpm anything is possible. Does it do this any other time?

My guess is the ecu shut you down for a reason. Maybe momentary over-boost or when you tapped the lever another signal from tcu caused shut down.

Safety feature is my guess.

That's what I'm hoping

Wazza you need a dawes valve to stop over boosting. Which CHIP??

Mego 5500 RPM What the?? Driving it as a manual I take it.
would think only a safety measure to stop you hitting 6000 RPM

Obviously you had the stereo too loud.......

I would think that the ECU did it's job at the same time you realized your mistake.....Should be fine, but I don't recommend doing it again.

It's sh1tting me now cos I'm always checking that I'm in drive. If the auto kicks down I check it, if it take longer to hear up , I check it. At the lights I check. Hope I can kick this habit.

I think the ecu or tcu went into safety mode and shut you down.
They have an o er rev sensor as it only revs out to a certain point and sits there
