Hello everyone, Just lately my water pump has been making that ''unmistakable noise'' that only a dying water pump can make. My question is, do forum members recommend a Nissan brand pump or are generic type pumps up to the challenge?

For something that is as important, I would go for genuine.
If you contact Garry nizzbits@hotmail.com He will price a genuine at a good price.

Used to be a guy here in Melb who replaced the pressed tin fan on any OE water pump and refitted a proper impellor to water pumps, he did one on my chev powered troopy and easy 40-50% more cooling. he designed cooling systems for the V8 super cars as well from memory, Genius of a man . think he's retired now but still works fom home now and then

Rito, thanks fellas. Think i will go for the genuine part. Also are there any pit falls in doing the job myself?? Have done them on Holdens and Valiants before but, many years ago. Can't be that different, right?

The bottom two bolts in the plastic timing cover are a pain to get in and out without removing the harmonic.
If you do remove the harmonic balancer, you may as well do the idler and tensioner and belt.
Don't forget to loctite the balancer bolt, they have a habit of working loose and costing an engine re-build.
DON"T DON"T kneel or lean on the top radiator tank, it's plastic and you will snap the overflow tube off, another $300 (hint of the week!!)
Talk to Nizzbits about the stuff you need. ( I have no connection to nizzbits whatsoever, however the way he has looked after me in the past, deserves a positive plug)
Cheers, the ferret

A BIG +1 on the radiator top tank.....can add a lot of dollars to a pretty simple job.

That plastic gets pretty brittle with age, starts snapping off all over the place...:animierte-smilies-f

Sound like you know what your doing mate....give it a shot
