easy question
is the pump for 4.2 & the 2.8 the same on a GQ

No one has a boost compensator the other doesn't.
Other then that it would be interesting to see if they are different sizes etc.
I have both here and have been meaning to look into it with some help from nissannewby.

I dont think they are. Putting a compensated pump on a 4.2 is common practice and i dont know of anyone that has used the 2.8 pump to do this. If they were the same id imagine it would be common practice. The timing of the pump may also be different to the 4.2, like where in runs with the likes of firing order cam position etc.

2.8 pump is electronic timing etc as such requires computer and sensors for it to work, internally there are slight differences as well. input shaft is completely different to as they run of a belt not a gear.
