I seem to have a pulley noise on my td42 it sounds similar to a loose belt not squealing but slipping slightly if you know what I mean but I have checked all belts it sounds like it coming from drivers side but I'm not sure as the revs go up it seems get a little louder what could it be power steering pump nackered or water pump on way out?

Take the power steering belt off and see if the noise goes away, then do the water pump one.
It maybe the bearing on the aircon compressor too.

Also check the belt tensioner too, they don't last for ever, just like any other bearing.

Not 100% sure if it even has one, but if it has, check it, lol, it should be on the belt that runs the Air con.

Funny that, I was thinking of a similar issue.
Alternator twin belts not matched length as you can see 1 of em slightly lose.
Make a heck of noise.
Think matched pair will make a difference.
But pulley wear may pose a problem.
I tried belt dressing spray only made it worse.
any takers on this issue?

ferret i dont have that pulley on my air con and my alternator has 2 places for 2 belts but i only have one belt on it as my harmonic balancer doesnt have room for any more belts . i tried belt dressing which has not done anything. i replaced the belt today and stilll makes a noise as i sprayed window cleaner on power steering belt other day and it stopped for a few seconds so i tried belt dressing didnt stop and now replaced belt and still has not stopped. im begining to wonder what it could be and now after that pic from ferret i think i may have aftermarket aircon not that it works maybe i should just remove the belt

Sometimes the squeal is because the pulley has worn and lets the belt bottom out.
Try a slightly wider belt, soap on the belt will stop the noise for a while.

its not a squeal its like a sand in bearing noise hard to explain but it does not look like its bottoming out on pulley

Might be best to take off one belt at a time and see if you can isolate the noise, if it's a bearing noise, the pulley or bearing will get quite warm.
It could even be the water pump, grab hold of the fan and see if there is any flog in it (engine off of course)
Or have a listen with a piece of garden hose around the general area the noise is coming from.

The TD42's have a manually adjust tensioner on the a/c belt. I would be removing one belt at a time to see where its coming from it could be a range of things. If it is a bearing I would be more inclined to say its the alternator or air con that will be making the noise.

Alternator is only a few weeks old and air on is aftermarket I think as there is no tensioner

ok problem sorted turns out after a closer examination in daylight instead of darkness it turns out i do have the aircon tensioner and i beleive that is what is stuffed as i have taken the belt off and tensioner is flogged out and gritty so i will leave the belt off for a while as my aircon needs new gas anyway and it is winter thanks for all your help and your pic ferret

Glad ya got it sorted mate, you should be able to buy a new bearing for it if you can get the number off it.
cheers, the ferret.

yeah you can buy the whole pully for just 25 bucks and fit it to its bracket as it also looks like the belt has been bottoming out on the pully part itself
