G'day,
got a computer fan for my fridge. I can easily rig it up to run all the time, but dont need it on that much, I reckon. (In the fridge, not for the motor)
I dont want to jury rig it to the thermostat etc. in the motor area, though. I'd like to run it seperately if I could, off the battery.
Any ideas on a timer switch for low amperage?
thanks fellas,
Mark

Thanks mate, but only has 17 switch cycles. I am sorta thinking about some thing that goes on an off lots of times during the day/night.
However, I had a brain wave and thought of a small (read cheap) solar panel. Minimal voltage needed for a computer fan. Course, wouldnt work well during the night!! But its cooler then too.
Brilliant idea or what??

12 volts - .15 amp fan- 1.5 watt solar panel. Equals (I think) .125 amps. Anyone know if a .15 amp fan would run (slower?) at .125 amps? I have No eye deer I'm afraid.. Need someone with a bit more nouse than me!!

if your any good at soldering you can make timer kit from jcar http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5464
i made there variable motor speed kit for a fan(Caframo Camano) on this site http://www.dynamicsolarsolutions.com.au/appliances.htm for camping in summer was very easy to do and I’m certainly no professional just follow instructions and might be what your looking for
Another option could be the fan/ solar panel combo on the same page lower down and like you said it’s not needed at night as much so may suit

You really only need the fan when things get hot. Jaycar sell a range of thermostats. Just hook one up in series with the fan and it will come on and off when it needs to. A timer is really a bit of a waste of time (no pun intended).

X 2 this was my first idea.
agree timer no good ( may not be running when it's actually needed ).
also like the idea of small solar panel as a power supply, but you would need a back up for night time.
cheers

Problem with a solar panel is - where do you put it? It must get full sun (especially if you only get a small panel) and it must be somewhere where it wont get broken. And - as you said - what about if you need the fan on hot nights?

Why don't you want the fan running constantly when the fridge is running?
I can't see one of those computer fans drawing more the 300mAmps.
To be honest, I don't think fitting a fan with have much benefit, especially if you have the fridge locked inside your vehicle, the fan will only be circulating the hot cabin air anyway.

I was thinking along the lines of the fan circulating the COLD air ( IE: in side the fridge) Like large fridges do? Dunno if that'll make much diff.
I rigged up the fan today, blowing cold air INSIDE the fridge. The fridge isnt cutting in and out so often now. But I wonder how much juice it'll use? It runs full time at .15amps.Any thoughts?
I have used the fridge every day day for 3 years.

Might check out a t/stat between the power and the fridge temp. Sounds good.

I found a cheap solar panel at Jaycar, which I decided to use. I'm going to run the fan with it, and the "left over power" will be used to add to the battery. 2 watts of coursing energy . Hope the battery doesnt explode.:)
