hey guys some of you may have seen this in the intro section, someone on the thread mentiond i should post it up in here aswell.. got a few pics.

i drive a white 1996 GQ patrol LWB. its a DX version of the manual 6 cyl 2.8 litre turbo diesel.
i purchased the wagon from a dealer in bendigo in immaculate condition with only 160,000 klm on the clock.
the 4wd was purchased as a very stock standard vehicle with only a few minor accesories including
small driving lights, nudge bar, cargo barrier, roof rack, dual battery system a very old uhf radio and an electronic brake kit.

17348
17347
17349
17350

since purchasing the 4wd i have fitted:
red arc battery isolator
new century hybrid marine battery as my secondary battery
gauge pod
autron boost and egt gauge and dual battery monitor gauge
alpine head unit
black duck canvas seat covers
tinted windows
boost controller
2.75 inch beaudeasert exhaust system no muffler
4-5 inch superior engineering SUFERFLEX suspension kit
15x8 inch black steel rims
33x12.50x15 cooper discover stt's

i install all of these accessories myself and do most of the modifications myself not only to save money but because i really enjoy it. and the money i do save on installation means i can buy much better bits.

17351
17354
17352

i will also be building my own front bar, side steps and hopefully rear bar as i am a welder by trade and can save a lot of money by building these vital accessories myself.

i want to build this 4wd more as a tourer rather than a bush basher. i have many many future plans for this truck the list is far to long to mention but first off ill be putting a snorkel, compressor and at least a front locker.. plus some camping and storage accessories.

hope you have enjoiyed reading my into thread and look forward to your feedback and seeing you out on the tracks..

here is a photo of what my 4wd looks like at the moment

for those of you who may be wondering and i know it gets asked a lot. I'm running cooper discover stt's 33X12.50X15 with -23 offset rims. i purchases 75mm flexi flares from roadrunner offroads ebay store and my tires don't stick out past the flares.. i have about 10-15 mm clearance.. i haven't had the suspension flexing enough to know if it rubs anywhere but while driving on the road it certainly does not and it looks as though there is plenty of clearance but i will update you soon as i test it out!

Winnie
7th July 2012, 12:10 PM
Yep you can.

Seems like a sensible mod if you run 33"s or bigger

Winnie
7th July 2012, 12:30 PM
My brother in law has just done it so he can run 35s. Would that increase your turning circle?

The superior radius arms actually push the diff forward about 25mm im pretty sure so it should be right in that department.

threedogs
7th July 2012, 12:48 PM
Turning circle would remain the same, but you can make it smaller with those steering lock bolt on the swivle hubs. Dont think it would be by much though, then it might rub elsewhere

ashleylipus
7th July 2012, 09:33 PM
Yeah radius arms space forward and also rotate diff to correct castor angle

did some work on the patrol after work today..

went out on sunday tot he strathbogie ranges with the wandein 4 wheelers fwd club,

while we were out on the tracks i noticed a strange noise everytime the front drivers side wheel would flex downwards.. got home and noticed there wasnt much clearance between the front drive shaft and the gearbox crossmember because of the lift.. and because of the amount of flex the front end has from the superflex arms the shaft was fouling on the crossmember..

quick email to superior engineering and the sent me the link with the mods needed..

Starting to run power to the rear of the gq. Ive got cables fuse block and all the connections ill need. Plus i have a led light strip that came with my rear door shelf from dcm 4x4 customs which ill be sticking up the top of the boot and using a door switch to turn it on and off when i open the doors 21308

ashleylipus
20th October 2012, 06:02 PM
Fuse block is in
21323
Covered the ghastly hole where the seatbelt used to be. Eventualy i will have drawer and fridge in the back and the electronics will be covered.
Also installed the led light strip.
21324
Didnt fit it to an automatic door switch however. I just installed a small rocker switch next to the power point. When i figure out the best way to install the door switch i will do it that way and then use the rocker switch to isolate the powerpoint next to it.

ashleylipus

I think i damaged one of the led's and lost the 3 in series. Ahh well. Lucky i didn't loose the whole strip!

Progress at the end of day 2. Im waiting on my heavy duty sliders before i start making the actual drawers.

ashleylipus
21st November 2012, 08:43 PM
the drawers will not be particularly long because of the water tank behind taking up a large mount of space but they will be reasonably wide and deep for pleny of storage.. i will also attach a top deck so things can be stored on top of the drawers and fridge, i have also made a top compartment that drops down and tuck up into the roof area for more storage
