At worst just a "double clutch" should sort it out. Also try a very gentle roll forward while making the change (2km/h)
Good luck

Jump under and check theres nothing foulin the mechanism for your transfer selector. Did it make any starnge noises or anything while you were 4wding? You could possibly even have a bit of wind up which will make it hard to select.

Were you deep in mud or deep in water today?

Take out the little plastic bungs on the bottom of the transfer case and gearbox to see if any water drains out of the seals.
My gearbox was jammed a while back. Water got in the seals, built up pressure and had same issues.

Sometimes jacking up a wheel takes the tension off the drive train and it will drop out of 4WD.
