Ive spent a few days trying to find a free license (free to distribute) digital map of Australia that is 1:250000 ideally 1:100k or 50k but that's not going to happen I think.

Does anyone know where I can get this?

Needs to be a georeferenced topographic map of Australia in 1:250000 at worse and free license to redistribute.

Land information New Zealand as a great free source with 1:50k http://www.linz.govt.nz/topography/topo-maps

Geoscience has this for $99 (https://www.ga.gov.au/products/servlet/controller?event=GEOCAT_DETAILS&catno=63999) but not sure if this is a free license or not....

Any map gurus know of any resources where I can find this???

I was waiting till I got home and downloading 3.51 too. If you get it working mate let us know how you go and how detailed it is with the contours, tracks, etc.

I'm more looking at 1:50k but that is pretty much impossible with the countless hours Ive spent looking so far...lol

Shonkies should work with ozi from memory after using map source then convert

You can import pictures (jpg's etc) of paper maps into ozi, and then calibrate them.

We do it all the time for radio coverage maps at work.

All you need is a minum of 2 referance points

I'm pretty sure shonky works with ozi straight I out of the box. That's what I'm using at the moment.

Thanks mate, that's the $99 one I found originally but I don't think It's a free license to distribute.

http://mapconnect.ga.gov.au/MapConne...t_agreement=on (http://mapconnect.ga.gov.au/MapConnect/?site=250K&accept_agreement=on)Thanks mate, yeah thats also an original one I found which has minor contour lines and you can only zoom in a little bit and the images saved are extremely fuzzy with little info unfortunately.

Also, that Garmin one is proprietary Garmin format. I kind of need them in standard GIS format (TIFF, etc.).

Struggling to convert those ones too...

Thanks mate, I'll have a gander....I also found after all this that the GEO Science site has free to download 1:250000 maps of Australia. Comprises of over 540 maps.

1:50,000 would be better...
