View Full Version : Brakes - master cylender question.

Okay, simple question, this being my first patrol, I just want to double check this.

The brake fluid reservoir cap - Is it meant to have a concertinaed rubber seal below it? I know most/all brake set ups on other cars have it. But mine seems to be missing it, so before I run off searching for it, I want to be sure if there's meant to be one there.

So if anyone has a GQ patrol (88-89) within easy reach, could you please flick off your brake fluid cap, and see if there's a rubber thingo beneath it?

This may be a cause of my brakes screwing up when going offroad, as the brake fluid is getting aerated, and that device is meant to prevent that.

Thanks anyone and everyone for any help!

*Sorry for the title typo, wasn't thinking :)*

Cheers growler. Odd set up, they usually have them, could still be what's causing my problem, no way to tell without getting a brand new master cylinder.

Kristoffa, you sir are a champ! I'll rip mine off and mate it up to pics, see if I got a match. Thanks heaps mate for taking the time out of your night to take those pics.

Seriously awesome of you!

No worries mate, took all of 2 minutes. That white piece in the cap is loose and has a rubber seal around it. Can take more pics if needed

I have the white piece, that rubber seal, is it a thickish circular seal? Mines kinda a thin strip of rubber going around the white thing.

Nope, that sounds exactly like what I've got

Oh well, can't figure it then. You ever have any issues with your brakes off road mate? Got air in my system somewhere, can't figure out how or where, or if I just didn't bleed them fully last time.

Master cylinder is leaking. Paints gone on the front of the booster. So gonna get a new one of them soon. But I got a much more serious problem that needs to be addresses first.

I'll probably just get an aftermarket cylinder off ebay. OEM parts usually dear. But if I give nissan a ring (possibly need other parts) I'll get a price for one for you guys.
