From Bobs post taken from the manual...

According to the Manual that I have it is .35mm or .14Inch for both Inlet and Oultlet Tappets

Adjusting Intake and Exhaust Valve Clearance
Adjustment should be made while engine is warm but not
running.
1. Set No. 1 cylinder in top dead center on its compression stroke,
and adjust valve clearance 1 , 2 , 4 , 5 , 8 and 9 .
2. Set No. 6 cylinder at top dead center on its compression stroke,
and adjust valve clearance 3 , 6 , 7 , 10 , 11 and 12 .
Valve clearance:
Intake 1 , 3 , 5 , 7 , 9 and 11
0.30 - 0.40 mm (0.012 - 0.016 in)
Exhaust 2 ,4 , 6 , 8 , 10 and 12
0.30 - 0.40 mm (0.012 - 0.016 in)
Adjusting screw lock nuts:
: 15 - 20 N×m (1.5 - 2.0 kg-m, 11 - 14 ft-lb)
I Tighten lock nuts, by fixing the ad

Gday mate, firstly, i dont know the answer lol. But hopefully someone will be along soon to help you out. You may find it in the manual. Just get your post count up to 25 and you can download the manual. You could start a members ride thread or slip over to the introduction section and welcome a few new members and you'll have your post count up in no time:)

Thanks for the replies fellas, was hoping that someone may have had a measurement with the engine stone cold, maybe I'm over thinking things, but I figure that by the time you switch engine off after getting to opperating temp, remove intercooler, rocker cover, and finally get to the last tappett to be adjusted, that the engine has cooled down a bit,so how accurate is it going to be,but if it can be done cold then all rockers are the same tempk?

AB have you ever re-checked your cold setting of .35 against hot engine to see what the final result is?.
just wondering what the out come might be.
cheers

Humm, I tried setting cold on TB42 some time back and found It really needed doing hot , all were out.
I'm no trained mechanic so I'm not as proficient or do it much.

As a note to the above...

The TB42 Is a petrol motor and has an aluminium head, the TD42 is diesel and the head is cast iron, the heat expansion rates will be much much different between the two.

hot out-come was a better deal for the TB and lasting many ks
