View Full Version : Must have front mud flaps

Got pulled over on the way up to Big River at Mansfield by the police on the weekend.
Wasn't a happy camper about not having front mud flaps.
I know we have had discussions on here about how you only need rear mud flaps on the Patrol's but in Victoria you have to have both front and rear on 4wd's and SUV's.
Food for thought anyway, but that's the law in Vic...Not sure about other states.

Gaol for 3 months and keeping warm at night with a big bloke called Bazza who loves ping pong and long walks on the beach...LMAO
Nah it was a Booz blitz for the long weekend so he was more interested in busting drunk drivers.

Neither did the other Patrol with me, he also had 35" tyre's, 3inch suspension and 2" body....Fair to say he needed a new pair of undies when we came over the hill to see an army of flashing lights...LMAO

If the car comes with front and rear mud flaps, I don't think it would matter what state you lived in, it dare say it would be law 2 have them.
I don't have front or rear as I am lazy and prefer 2 run the risk rather than fix it

I just spoke to the car in the convoy who came back today and he/she got pulled up on the way home today again with a $300 fine for the flaps and a broken brake light...No joke!
All those without mud flaps should consider putting them on folks.

I think we need to come up with quick release mudflaps for the serious among us??
Not me, I'm flat out atm.
Something that just slides on when you hit the tarmac, and slides off for the mud!!
Cheers, the ferret.

Thanks guys,
Been putting it off for a while now but a mate got done for no mudflaps so thought I better do something about it.
Had a scrounge around the shed and all I could find was 2 bits of different sized RHS that happened to fit together nicely and came up with the following removable set up.
When I done the quater chop I welded 3mm plate to fill in the bottom of it which is quite strong so
I used that as a mounting point.

I also got pulled up for a drug/breath test and the sow said i need to have rear mud flaps on and i just said i put the rear bar on last weekend and didn’t have time to yet ..lmao.
i think in Queensland they have to be 230mm off the ground but i was also told it was to be 100mm off the ground so not all that sure now but mine dont cover the full width so not legal anyway

Well....After this weekend I was chatting with a mate we were trying to come up with the exact same idea.
What about using a clipboard mechanism and you just unclick a flat piece of rubber (mud flap) when you hit the tracks...LMAO

I made my own up from woven rubber sheeting from Clarke Rubber, I set the rear ones back about 2" & ran a chain from it, I can adjust the chain to pull it back when off road, put chain on the front ones as they extend from the flares down, the chain can be adjusted to pull them back as well, still ripped one off on a rock climb recently, I undo 4 bolts & fit a new one now, refit the chain, as the mudflaps were required for my engineers certificate I keep them on 24/7
