Hi Guys, Recently I've noticed a loud clunk coming from the front end of my GQ when I bounce up a curb or when bush bashing. Had a few strange looks from people as its quite loud. HAHA!!!! Any ideas what it is and I have a good look on me days off? Panhards, CVs, It steers fine on the road. I've searched thru past threads but cant find what I'm looking for.
Regards Bunsen8

Have a look at the suspension bushes you will most likley find that one or more of these is worn out

im only speaking from only 2 wheel drive cars (havnt found my patrol yet) but iv owned a few hiluxs
generaly clunks made from the wheels moving up n down on the front end ie. train tracks or curbs is usualy suspension
if you get on a nice safe area n swerve pretty harsh back n forth n u get it aswel its usualy related to steering
its made identifying a problem easier for me hope it helps

jack the front up so the wheels are free hanging on the suspension & have 'da wifey' or a mate turn the steering wheel left to right, look for play in the suspension components, a visual look rarely shows issues with bushes etc, if is shows no abnormal movement lower it so the wheels are just on the ground enough to be able to still turn the wheel to create some pressure & this should show excess movement, it often pays to have 2 sets of eyes underneath looking, if you have no idea what to look for have someone with you that does, it is good to learn, otherwise go to your mecho & have him put it on the hoist but stay & watch what he does, get him to show you any issues he sees, another good way to learn, it is always better to tell the mecho what you want done if you cant do it yourself as oppose to giving it to him & say there is a noise/clunk, please fix it

have a look at the body mounts to the chassis.

Sway bar bushes
Shocky bushes
Control arm bushes
Panhard rod bushes
As Morton said, except with car on the ground. This puts steering under load and you find loose bits real easy. Wifey steering as she may not lie under the car.
Or get a big mate to bounce ya car while you look for everything that may be loose in the front end.

I would be saying bushes, but also could possibly be wheel bearing... not as likely though.
